Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
« on: December 01, 2008, 11:28:57 PM »
I need advice as I think I may have it.
I work behind a computer about 15 hours a day.
Yesterday, I started getting a pain in my wrist.
Last night it woke me up at 2:15 and I barely slept after that because there was so much pain.
I got a wrist brace at lunch today and that seems to help.

I may have triggered this by flicking the chips out of a 9lb barrel blank yesterday morning, but there was no pain at that time.
It seems to have come on strong 12 hours later.

Anyone else here suffer from this?
What advice can you give me on dealing with and overcoming it?
I didn't really enjoy taking showers with other men though I have done it
I move a lot...and drool....

Wrist Brace should help. Stop using it too much for a week or so. And get one of those gel keyboard wrist rests. Also, try to type with your wrists elevated so they don't rest on the desk. If that does not work, they will have to go. I have a nice sharp hack saw.

When I was working as a detailer for a dealership I would have dull but constant pain in my hands, literally inside of my hands not on the surface. Every couple of hours I would get "jolts" of debilitating pain that went from my should down to my fingers....I knew something was wrong, I thought I had Capal Tunnel, but after going to see a doctor he diagnosed me with tendonitis (sp?). He gave me a wrist brace and some 800mg Ibprofin and told me to quit my job. I followed his advice and haven't felt it since.

I have it in both hands/wrist - It sucks - You have to let it rest - Do what others are telling you -

Ibuprofen is not just a pain killer, it is an anti-inflammatory...so when you stress or strain something, tissues get damaged and swell up, pinching the nerves, causing the pain.
I do have a bad neck problem, when it acts up, I take Ibu for a couple days every 4-6 hours...got to keep the anti-inflams in your system a while to let them work. Not taking the anti-inflams 'cause it stopped hurting just delays the healing.

Randall: this is the first sign you are getting old....my sincere condolences.
Start thinking about Grecian hair formula, too.

Lots of people getting older, so maybe you want to stock up now so you can still look good when SHTF.

That is right. He is younger. Oh man, you are in for a lot of pain. I think I am in pain all the time, I just forgot what not being in pain is like, so I don't notice it anymore. I tripped on a cable today in the lab. I did not fall, but my foot and toes crampped up really bad. That was painful. But I get stuff like that happening everyday.

He may also suffer symptoms of going blind and growing hair on the palms.

I just talked to a co-worker about this. He says it is now orthoscopic surgery with a short recovery. He is getting the cortisone injections to help his now, but that is a temporary fix. First shot made him better for 6-mos, the time between them gets closer and closer.
