What makes such a scope so expensive or worth it? So a real good $1000 plus Leopold would not be as good?
Isn't there a point of no return like with guns in a way where you end up paying more for name or status than performance?
$500 and under scopes are mossberg 500's, rattly as hell, but they kill stuff you point at.
Up to $1000 and it don't rattle so much and you can see through it better.
When you hit about $1500, the adjustments start to become precise and the glass is starting to look clear.
At $2000, you now have good glass, repeatable adjustments, first focal plane reticles.
At $3000 you get it all and some special features like larger tube diameters, more elevation travel etc.
At $3500, you have it all.
You can look through a $1500 scope and see the difference a $3500 scope gives you.
You can look through a $1000 scope and see the difference a $1500 scope gives you.
You can turn the knobs on a $1000 scope and hear/feel/see the difference on target a $1500 scope gives you.
The point of diminshing returns is much harder to find in optics because you keep getting extras as you step up.
