it appears so.  i had to generate a new user name for the .org, as the freonr22 wasnt registered

Yup, it looks like it.

I can  get in to the control panel but can not access either the front end server nor the DB via phpMyAdmin.

Off to make a phonecall...

Okay, we're still down but we're improving.

The front side server responded to a bit of 'gentle persuasion' but the DB server is experiencing massive amounts of requests.
400k or more simultaneously from the sounds of it.
A DB restart is in the works but the server, being a computer, is doing everything in order which means it's trying to clear all the requests first.

There are some more, attention grabbing, things being done so we hopefully won't have to wait too long.

There's nothing solid to back it up as of yet, all effort is going in to getting things up and running, but there is a definite DoS attack feel to it.

DoS= Denial of Service.
Basically it's a case of flooding a server with massive amounts of requests to the point you overload it an nothing can get through.

It effectively takes a site offline without having to have server access.
