Handguns / J frame S&W .22 caliber revolvers
« on: December 16, 2008, 01:20:32 AM »
Anyone own or like them?  I recently got a 34-1 4" blued, I used to have a mod 63 4" I put A LOT or rounds downrange with and I taught myself to shoot with.

I have never messed with 2" versions yet, I assume the ballistics would be especially weak.

Have never tried a .22mag version though I'd like to such as the model 651, hows the accuracy with them?

These kit guns are pretty neat.  Though they have the coil spring action they still seem to have decent accuracy and triggers.

Glad I go the 34-1, fills a hole in my extensive S&W and .22lr collections, many of my smaller .22lr revolvers are marginal stuff like H&R and and Charter Arms.

Handguns / Handguns with a shoulder stock
« on: November 25, 2008, 04:58:10 AM »
Can we legally own and use any examples of these in CA such as the older C&R models like an old BHP or Mauser Broomhandle?  I have never fired a handgun so equiped, has anyone ever doen it or owned one?

IIRC some manufacturers have made models that fall away from the gun once you remove your hand which makes them legal, not sure for CA though.

Some makers have offered them on cap and ball revolver too IIRC, I assume those would be ok for CA?  Though you would have to watch for injury to your forearm if you hold the gun certain ways due to the cylinder gap.

Or how about a single action centerfire revolver with a 16in barrel and shoulder stock?  I rmember those kits to turn a 1911 pattern pistol in to a rifle also but thse seem CA illegal now.

A Stechkin would be fun and doubly illegal :(

Off Topic Discussion / Blonde,brunette,redhead?

Just curious you guys(and girls)  I of course like examples of all of them but there is something special about redheads.  Though I generally am attracted to many brunettes and the occasional special blonde.

Handguns / Handguns chambered in 7.62x25 Tokarev
« on: November 24, 2008, 01:44:34 AM »
Is there one that is readily available on the US market that is not a Tokarev pistol or a CZ52 pistol?  I really like this cartridge.  I wish a modern gun was chambered for it and available.  I like bottleneck pistol cartridges.

I have had poor luck with my Chinese Tokarevs I have owned in 9x19 and my CZ52's now like to lock the slides back with ammo still in the magazine for some reason  :(

I suppose the 7.63 Mauser catridge is similar too as is that 7.65 Luger cartridge that strangely Ruger offered a P89 in 9x19 with a extra barrel in this caliber was well at one time.

General Gun Discussion / RIP Chuck Karwan

Anyone remember him?  He died recently, it was in the latest issue of American Rifleman.  I really used to enjoy some of the imformative books and article he used to write.

Off Topic Discussion / Knotts Berry Farm
« on: November 15, 2008, 04:08:46 PM »
Just so you all know, I posted about this in .net also.  Every year from about Nov 1 up to and including Thanksgiving, Knotts lets in active duty and veterans free and one guest free also.  Up to 6 more tickets may be purchased at $15 each.

If anyone wants to go or have a possible TAN meet there before this ends let me know.  I went once already, I might also get in Marcelo and his family for starters.  I might go for a little while on Sun morning.

Off Topic Discussion / Angeles range on Thanksgiving
« on: November 13, 2008, 11:32:15 PM »
Who wants to go?  It is open 9-5.  I will likely be there.  I have little family so Thanksgiving has little meaning for me anymore.  I used to go to BLM land on Xmas and Thanksgiving but I am not really feeling that right now.

I will likely be there most the day firing .22lr's mostly.

General Gun Discussion / .22 Hornet
« on: November 13, 2008, 03:00:43 PM »
Anyone have a gun so chambered?  Should I get one and if so which gun so chambered?  It seems a neat cartridge but does it make any sense these days of the .223 and .22-250?

I though a cheap Savage 340 would be a good way to get in to this cartridge, or maybe a T/C barrel or a single shot NEF for fun.

10
Anyone have or like these guns?  I have been looking for a Mexican Mauser, preferably one from 1910-1920 revolution era.  They tend to be hard to find and beat or sporterized though.  I missed one at $300ish recently >:

I had a 1908 Brazilian rifle in 7x57 but it had some issues so it went bye bye, I like that cartridge a lot.

I currently have a Brazilian Mauser 08/34 in .30-06, it kicks like a mofo!  Steel buttplate and short barrel.

Rifles / Folding stock rifles
« on: November 05, 2008, 08:46:47 AM »
I don't recall owning one ever but the shotguns so equiped can be painful to shoot.  I want one for a 10/22 for fun and so I can stow it easier.

Anyone have them on other rifles?  Is there a preference for side or underfoding ones?  I assume collapsible ones are the best?

On a M1a I bet they are painful and akward to shoot.

2nd Amend. Politics and Law / black powder shotgun and under 18in barrels
« on: November 05, 2008, 08:26:09 AM »
I have heard on .net and otherwise this is legal.  Has anyone tried this?  Can anyone foresee a problem owning and operating such a gun legally?  Are they ever sold in such a configuration?

General Gun Discussion / FMJ or other non jhp/hp ammo for defense?
« on: November 05, 2008, 08:01:19 AM »
Anyone use it and if so why?  Reliablity in certain guns?  Penetration in the samll calibers like .25 and .32acp? Softpoints or some other weird design like Glasers?

Shotguns / lever action shotguns
« on: November 05, 2008, 07:56:50 AM »
Anyone have one?  I have always wanted to own one due to Terminator 2.  The old Winchester in 10ga would be neat but the modern clone from China would probably be better for me.  I'd love to try one.

Also there is the Win 9410 in .410, can't think of any others, I wonder why the lever action platform is unpopular with shotguns?

15
I did the coyote thing, but w/o success.

I'd like to try again or try for something else, my 1st hunting license, I want to use it.

I know pigs are hard on public land and I'm sure deer are too.  Some sort of birdies maybe?

Shotguns / Bolt action shotguns
« on: October 31, 2008, 03:55:25 AM »
Anyone own or like these?  Many shotgunners disdain them and as so, they can sometimes be found at bargain prices.  I have owned a few over the years, I still have a 12ga J.C.Higgins(Sears) version of a High Standard one.  I'd like to pick up a 16ga and especially a .410 version eventually maybe.

My 20ga I sold to someone who never paid me for it >:(  Mossberg did/does make a modern version for slug hunting and at one time marketed a sort of riot version of a bolt action shotgun!

I generally prefer then to single shot shotguns, I kind of think of then as a single shot shotgun with ammo in reserve, one drawback being one must remove hand from trigger area to chamber a new round.  Also I'd be embarassed to bring one to a trap range :D

Rifles / pump action rifles
« on: October 31, 2008, 01:21:52 AM »
Wh owns and likes these?  I have only owned .22lr versions but I'd like a old Remington 14 1/2 or something and a Remington 7600 eventually.  Basically ambidextrous and they are fun.

I have a Winchester 62a from the early 1950's I got this year for $100 otd.  I sold a Rossi copy of the Winchester on calguns this year.  I should have kept it maybe as it had a neat octagonal barrel.

Shotguns / cut down/short length o/u shotguns
« on: October 29, 2008, 07:56:16 PM »
How come double barreled shotguns that are of a short defensvie length barrel size are usually side by side type?  I think they look neat in a over/under configuration.

Stoeger now makes on called the outback, I really want one.  Has like 20in barrels and even has interchangeable choke tubes and a basic real rifle sight. Seems a very versatile gun in 12 ga.

Handguns / Revolvers chambered in auto pistol cartridges
« on: October 29, 2008, 04:23:56 AM »
Who has them?  I have a S&W 25-2 6',a 625-2 5" MODEL OF 1988(not 89), an old customized S&W 1917 .45acp revolver, a Ruger speed six 9x19 ss 2 3/4", and a S&W 940 2" 9x19.

I sold off 2 Colt 1917 with period customizing.

I like the concept with the fast reload the moonclips offer and other advantages of the system, many casual shooters dislike fiddling with the clips though.

I'd like to get a S&W 610 pre lock with the unfluted cylinder.  And the .38super 8 shot would be neat but I hate new S&W's with the lock.

S&W did make the 547 which did not need moonclips.  And the Ruger single actions in .45acp,9x19,10mm,and the Vaquero single action in .40 would be fun to own and do not need moonclips.

I'd like the Ruger service six in 9mm as well.  Astra made some revolvers like this too as did some other Euro manufacturers.

Rifles / AR7
« on: October 28, 2008, 05:44:10 AM »
Anyone own or like these?  I have only kept one of many I have owned.  The concept is fun and seems ok but the guns are kind of cheaply made it seems, prone to jams and going FA.  You gotta love a rifle that can float...

I still have an original Armalite version with the box with the old pegasus design.  I do shoot it though and I may take it to the range soon.  The ones with a brown stock IIRC are the rarest, mine is the multicolored swirl,

I used to have a silver Henry and a Charter Arms($100 in 2004ish,saw one for $85 later)  and an AR7 industries,$90 with a box of ammo included NIB in 2005ish.  Sold it on .org for $125 later, I decided I did not want 3-4 Ar7's.

Some of the accesories and different models got kind of crazy, extended mags, wood and wire stocks, barrel shrouds, scope mounts, ect.

I wish the Charter Arms pistol version was legal in CA.  Sort of like a Broomhandle Mauser looking thing.

Handguns / Handgun schambered in .32 H&R magnum
« on: October 28, 2008, 01:05:02 AM »
Anyone have one?  I had a S&W centennial model 632 airweight, got it for $250, sold it for $500.  Fairly neat and rare but I decided it was not to my liking and I could use the cash.

I still have a Ruger single six with adj sights in this caliber, 4 5/8".  Paid $230 on a whim for it in 2004.  Did not realize they are somewhat rare.

Caliber is kind of neat but a .38spl properly loaded does anything it can it seems.

I even fired a few in a Nagant gas seal revolver! :o

I kind of want a DA revolver in this caliber still.

Curio & Relic / Astra 300/400/600 anyone?
« on: October 27, 2008, 02:52:33 AM »
Anyone like or own these unconventional appearing blowback autos?  I have 2x Astra 600's and 2x Astra 400's.  The Astra 400's were acquired the last two years for about $100 each.  Thought these guns would be junky possibly.

Wrong.they are well made and very accurate, supposedly they have a very tolerent chamber and can fire many different 9mm cartridges but I have only tried mild .38super with some success. Mine are marked 9mm/.38 meaning the .38ACP cartridge is ok to use, identical to .38super but loaded mild.

Astra 600's 9x19's were acquired since 2005, one costing $160, the other $220.  All of these guns in this series were used by the Nazis as well, some were so marked, in the case of the 400's only the serial number range identifies them(they go for a premium)

These guns generally are quite accurate and even feed jhp usually.  I also once had a Astra 300 .380acp with Nazi markings the seller did not notice.  $300 in 2007 with two mags and a box of Super Vel ammo.

The gun had some idiot marks where someone tried to use pliers to disassemble the barrel collar.  I sold gun at auction for around $600.

Shotguns / marinecote/marine magnum/nickeled/stainless shotguns
« on: October 25, 2008, 04:28:47 PM »
Anyone have a weather resistant finished shotgun?  Ther concept seems sound and I think they can look nice.

I have a Remington 870 marine magnum with a Choate top folding stock, $300 in 2007.

I think the Mossberg 590 in marinecote looks nice as well.

The Winchester versions can be SHINY!  And the ones with the wood stock seem to defat the purpose somewhat and the ones with the black finished receiver look kind of funny.  I stupidly missed a Win 1200 or 1300 in the nickel finish for $200 in 2000 though I got the standard version for $169 NIB in 2001.

Orange PD has folding stock Remington marine magnums on the motorcycle units.

The Ruger Red Lable in the all weather version seems neat.  I also have a Stoeger coach gun in 20ga with a nickel finish.

Handguns / 4 barreled derringers
« on: October 24, 2008, 03:12:49 PM »
Anyone have one or want one?  The Mossberg Brownie and COP derriger were two on this pattern.

I have an EIG Italian version chambered for standard velocity .22lr, it does not extract well though >:(

Interesting piece though.

Curio & Relic / Japanese milsurp/C&R
« on: October 22, 2008, 02:58:22 PM »
Anyone have or like these guns?  I have an Arisaka type 99 7.7, came with bayonet and a crysanthemum crest with only a tiny nick in it, only $165 in 2005.

I'd really like a 6.5 example.  Recoil is mild and guns like this are fun to shoot.  These guns ahe started to get a bit more respect and command more $.

I'd get a Nambu for fun if the price was right, the baby Nambu is expensive and in a strange 7mm caliber too.

General Gun Discussion / Guns chambered in .22short only
« on: October 21, 2008, 02:16:54 PM »
Anyone have one?  I have 2x Beretta 950bs's in this chambering, make fun, cheap to shoot alternatives to the .25acp versions.

I used to have a Astra Cub .22short in chrome with faux pearl grips, most accurate pistol of this type I ever owned but is was somewhat unreliable.

I'd like to have a Nylon 66 in .22short, the gallery gun, or the Browning .22 takedown whcih came in a .22short only mdoel as well.

Handguns / European modern double action revolvers?
« on: October 20, 2008, 02:07:40 AM »
Anyone have one?  I'd love a Manurhin MR73 of some sort and maybe even a Korth, One can dream...

I have a Sauer DA .22lr revolver, kind of uncommon.  Also I have Llama revolvers in .357 and .44mag, used to have a .22lr.

Uberti made one, the Inspector, a Colt looking clone.  Astra made revolvers(I want one), also Astra made a DA revolver for FN, the barracuda.  IIRC Gamba in Italy and Erma made DA revolvers as well.

I have some of the C&R ones like a Enfield .38/200 and a Nagant.

Rifles / Long guns chambered in pistol calibers?
« on: October 18, 2008, 01:55:20 AM »
I like the concept at times, can be taken to all indoor ranges, a good next step when training novices after a .22lr rifle, can be a decent defensive weapon.

I have a Destroyer bolt action in 9mm Largo,Winchester 94 in .357mag,Rossi mod 92 clone in .44mag,Ruger PC4 .40,Marlin Camp 9 9x19,I used to have a Marlin Camp .45.

A Ruger 77/44 .44mag would be neat or a deerfield if it was not imited to 4 rounds in the newer models.

I also have handguns in the same chamberings, some that take the same mags even such as my Marlin Camp 9 and Daewoo DP51 which both take S&W magazines.

I alos have some crossover with .22lr rifles and handguns and also .30carbine and .223 rifles and handguns.

Handguns / .45LC double action revolvers
« on: October 18, 2008, 01:42:15 AM »
Anyone have one?  I have a S&W 25-5 4".  There is also the Ruger Redhawk in .45LC, the Colt Anaconda(I'd like the rare 4"), the Dan Wesson(I have never seen a .45LC version in person),some other S&W models, the Astra large frame revolver may have also came in this caliber as well.

Taurus did/does make some DA revolvers in .45lc as well.

I'd like to get a 6" 25-5 as well.
