« on: April 05, 2008, 10:12:37 AM »
Is in my future, any suggestions on what's the best 9mm 1911 currently out there to get? Thank you

Its not only a matter of which is the best one to purchase but also it must be on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale.

The list can be accessed here.

http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/

Private party transfers or PPT are exempt so if you find someone selling a pistol that is also a resident of California that you want the pistol does not have to be on the list referred to above for you to DROS it.

I kinda like the Springfield EMP pistol for a 9mm 1911 type handgun.  And it's on the approved list.

Anyone shot an EMP yet? I could just imagine it being a rathy snappy recoil and a bit unpleasant.

I have 1. It's not as snappy as I first imagined.  It's similar to my glock 26.

I was going to reply to the OP until someone brought up that damned list...

Is there a way around the CA list besides the family gift or LEO exemption?

7 month old problem still trying to be solved?   ;D

EMP is a carry gun; this isn't a carry state.

I LOVE my Colt LW Commander 9mm.  Seems about perfect for 9mm

A Government would be good, too.

10rds of 9mm is the 8rd of .45 equivalent for mags, so this really does make for a great new purchase CA-legal gun.

You can use any frame and buy a 9mm top-end.  That opens more possibilities.

As much as I hate to admit it, Springfield's 9mm Target is probably the way to go.  I'd dump the target sights for Heine's or similar, though.

I think a RIA 1911 pattern in 9x19 would sell ok.

Rock Island Armory 1911 in 9x19.  The .45acp examples are decent for entry level, I want one in .38super as well maybe.

They only seem to come in a bright chrome or nickel finish in .38super though which I am cool with.

if your going to get a 9mm 1911, it makes sense to go for a .38 super instead...

same round count, but more whoopanus per pop

1911's were designed for .45 auto and .38 auto and .38 superauto, anything else is a bastardization of the work of JMB.

oh and he made .22LR conversion slides if you want a plinker....

9mm 1911 is a problem looking for a solution and solving it half-anus'ed.

.38super ammunition is less available and more expensive when you do find it.

Too lazy to chase down the .38super brass.

9mm+P is only about 50-75fps slower than 38super.

You can buy 9mm+P just about anywhere.  38 Super +P is more difficult to come by, especially in modern defensive loadings.

20 years ago I'd agree with you.
