New site question
« on: April 24, 2024, 07:32:39 AM »
Do we know any sites that use the new software that we can look at? Would like to see what we are getting into.

vBulletin uses the latest release (v6.0.4) for their discussion forum - https://forum.vbulletin.com/forum

And another v6.0.4 with ads and slightly different look - https://www.w124.org/forum/

Here is another site running v6.0.3 with a different layout - https://www.drewrynewsnetwork.com/

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) uses a recent version of vBulletin. I think they are cloud hosted.

CMP Forum moderator here...  The site is using Cloud hosting, which means updates are automatically pushed out.  There have been a few occasions when the site went to sheet after the upgrades, but that is due to lack of Admin knowledge / support.  Almost everything done is through vB support staff.  I suspect Kes will keep the site functional through the upgrades.  One thing I do not like about the CMP forum; users cannot upload photos to their posts / ads.  Requires using a photo hosting services and pasting a link to the hosting site.  This was done due to storage costs as photo storage can eat up space.  Not sure what Kes is planning here, but this would be the only concern with vB hosting.

Finding one that works decent, is reliable, and is free, can be a pain in the a*s. Source: This former photobucket user. And current imgur user.

If you know of a few, toss up the links so we can all be ready, homie.

Well, to be fair, I never claimed to be otherwise.

BTW, "clever" word filters are also 10 f*cking years ago. Dorks.

*edit* Nice ninja edit, still caught your typo. ;)

CMP looks the best. I hope that huge rules page is not displayed every time to logged in people.  :)

I hope Kes does not enable a social media icon fly out.

Many times I host my own images. When I croak and my website is taken down many other websites will be missing images.  :)

Rules can be hidden:  Once logged on, click the X in the top right of the rules area.  Gone!
