Technique, just a few specialty tools.  Spot welder, hydraulic press, bending jig, bolt cutter rivet squeezer...

Okay, next start to finish build, I'll do pics and a write up.  You guys know there is info all over the net for AK builds??  I do build them a little differently than most people in that I weld the front trunion.  Purist hate that, and insist that rivets are better.  Welding is just easier for me to do rather than risk damaging a barrel assembly.

Your build is more common man build - Less of everything - Imagine some lowly 3rd world country building these in a tunnel - They will not have access to some stuff we do - The gun performs fine in war -

I'm building a pistol with the kit. I chucked the folding stock for safe measure.

I am going to shorten the piston, barrel and tube by myself.

You could have sold the stock, sure its not in the trash outside still?  I certainly do wish I'd have gotten into the building when kits were only $50...

yeah but since I plan on it being a pistol, I didn't want the stock around. It wont fit on the flat even when I bend it but since I sold my other AK's i figured its best to not have it around.

I am going to hang here a bit longer then head to the market then off for my trip - It's going to be about 64 miles - Not too bad - a bit further away than Pasadena where I met up with everyone for the Heller dinner -

any of these good for bending flats?
http://search.harborfreight.com/cpisearch/web/search.do?keyword=hydraulic+press&Submit=Go

I use the 12 ton for 129.99 and got it on sale for a little bit less I think.  Great for flats, and barrel pressing.  I couldn't get it to work for barrel pin removal.  Motorhead recommends using an air chisel to *shock* the pin loose.  There is a way around all of that mess though.
