I think Randlal uses the expensive Lapua or Eley stuff.

I use SK Standard Plus which is made by Lapua.
You can also buy the same ammo as Wolf Match Target.
About $50 a brick shipped if you buy 3 bricks at a time.
Basically 10 cents a round.

What do you weld with oxy/acetylene?

Mostly cutting and forming/bending.
Sometimes it's a good solution for things that are too thin, but the more I use the tig, the less I use the oxy-acelylene.

heat treating AK's??  That's what I use mine for.  Oh, and cutting up car frames and what not...

How come?  Ammo costs?

That, and recoil that will cause a flinch.
Start with a 9mm.

I taught myself to shoot mainly with a commercial Bulgarian Makarov and a S&W mod 63 4in .22lr

Yeah i think i will flinch for months with my howa, I am scared of it a bit now ever since it hit me in the face i dint feel like shooting itmuch afterwards and when i did my head was wayyyy back

You need to have that stock and scope setup properly for you.
The scope should never touch you if you are on the rifle right and it's setup right.
If the recoil bothers you, put a muzzle brake and a better recoil pad on it.
No sense shooting a gun you are afraid of.

If you like the setup that Volquartsen offers, then it's probably a good way to go.
I prefer to build myself to spread out the investment over more time.

10-22 Action
Volquartsen  hammer
My action job including over-travel and sear pre-travel setscrews.
Polishing of fire control parts
Polishing of bolt to smooth out action
Bell & Carlson "anschutz thumbhole" stock with the barrel channel free-floated (still need to bed the action)
Alluminum pillar & stud added to use Harris S-BRM bipod off my 308
Flush mount sling cups to use my QD Tactical Intervention m24 sling off my 308
Green Mountain 20" fluted stainless barrel re-chambered with a Bentz reamer
Game Reaper one-piece scope mount (I milled 20 MOA of elevation into the base)
Nikon Buckmasters 4.5-14 Mil-Dot side focus scope.

Too rich for my blood...

Can you explain to me what is involved in free floating a barrel/stock and glass bedding??

Free floating is removing any bit of the stock that contacts the barrel, especially when shooting.  Correct?  You can identify those bits of stock because they are generally polishing on the barrel when you shoot.

Once deer season is over, I'm hoping to rework the rifle...  Swap out scopes, have Randall do the cheek piece...  I don't know if I should get a better stock first, though.  Its got the el cheapo flimsy (yet nicely lightweight) gray plastic one.  Randall???

Get rid of the cheap stock.
Get something with an aluminum bedding block (HS or Bell & Carlson) or get a McMillan or Manners and have it bedded.

Yeah as you can tell at teh bbq i was asking you and saigon how to cock and decock the semi's

Semi auto handguns can and do work in many different ways,w or w/o grip safeties, safeties that work in different directions, mag disconnects, lack of slide stops, ect...

I know little of AR's to be honest.

It appears that was your 1st time BBQing as well.  I can do that as well, maybe next time I will cook a little if Ojisan lets me!

We all learn all the time.

When I show a firearm to somebody, the first thing I do is check to see if its loaded.  Then show them how to check to see if its loaded, then have them show me that its unloaded.

Safety checks and helps get the noob familiar with the operation of the firearm.

that is a good way to do it, ross you are one of the only ones missing at the bbq's you should head out at the next one

I would have gone but I was on call this weekend.  I had to stick close to home...

What is the sled?

Randall, do you buy your shotgun ammo online?

The sled is the single shot adapter.

I buy shotshells at Walmart, gun shows or when I find good deals at matches or from local people.
I have ordered slugs and buck online, but it's hard to beat a walmart annual close-out.

It seemed ok but I'd wager a high end Leopold would be even much better.   I am a scope noob for the most part but I can help you sight in the Nikko if Randall is not available.

How bad was that forum getting to piss off Kes so much, geez!

There's one particular guy that always keeps the drama going after he says "ok, let's stop the drama".
Trying to get Kes to re-instate the forum, but just ban him from it...
