I remember a girl in my drivers ed car always had a knife. I was at South High school. No gangs to speak of in that area then. Surfers ruled.

I carry a knife on me all the time....I live in a suburb.....I usually carry a bigger one in SF or Oakland tho, esp. when I'm working....Its more of a tool and defense weapon...also carry pepper spray too

My roomate (renter) was being stalked. I bought her a really big knife at the gun show. She liked it a lot.

I don;t know what to think about the home school stuff -

I've met numerous kids, parents and they are just a bit tweaked - Not bad or anything - Just holding out for the jury on this.

I have seen it done very succesfully, but for the most part it has become an excuse for parents not wanting to send their kids to school and deal with the trouble they make, the bad grades or even just having to bring them there. I have seen both extremes.

I don;t know what to think about the home school stuff -

It can go 2 ways....horrible,
Or you can have wonderful kids who excell in academics and responsibilities and seem to have large dreams and desires and are polite and well behaved and VERY intelligent!  -my friend Mary and her 5 kids come to mind...all WONDERFUL kids!  I hope my kids are like that.

Or send em to public school like I plan on doing...daddy can pick them up when mommy is saving babies from burning buildings on an hourly basis, while also helping grandma across the street and talking a scared kid through CPR over a phone via dispatch through CPR on his grandpa and of course properly documenting everything and calculating dopamine infusions in her head for fun vs using the flip chart cause charts are for sissies.....OK That might be a slight exageration of what I want to do and currently do...but most of its true!  Maybe not the dopamine calculation....

Depends on the format
I went on independent study for the second half of high school
I went in once a week for 30 minutes to meet with a teacher and have them assign new work
My grades went up and I was definitely learning more

there is actually a whole community around it and they are very conscious about socializing their children....church groups come to mind a long with other stuff....the teachers make a point to have the kids interact with other kids....

Do we REALLY wanna go there??!

Not really, but my natural loathing for rats./cheese eaters/lovers of queso/ect... makes it hard to not want to.

Like I said, at least for me, I blame the "soft core" people mostly for this I'd say.

Snitches get stitches!

And people who make threats get removed permanently.

if they lucky they get stitches
And so do those who add to the problem.

You cant be serious right? I mean, I dont "eThreaten" people online ::)  Come on now. You gotta know  thats not what I meant. As Moonclip said, its just a phrase... when youre not holding bats, knives, and other weapons as you say.  Just a phrase I tell ya. If you dont believe me, go back over all my post and find where I ethreaten other CGNers.  I just dont do crap like that.

another thing, back in my crime fighter days, I NEVER pulled out a knife, bat, or other weapon.  I was always down to get'tum up.  Mano a mano. Still am too.   Actually, I cracked some tweaker in the mouth with my mag light for trying to run up to my window at a traffic light while I was loaded down with my family.  Waht was I supposed to do.  I wasnt gonna get off my truck with it running and all, just to punk this dude with my family in the truck watching, so i just rolled the window down and reached out and "touched" him accross the mouth with the maglite.  Light turned green, and we took off. The end of that.
