Very cool.  The sticky on .net  idea is a good one.

Okay, so I've been reading this and comparing prices on parts and what not.

Seems like parts kits are still reasonably priced.  150 or so at Apex.

Receivers are milled, so they aren't a BIY item.  Must come through an FFL, and they are the expensive part, $400 and up.

Finished rifles are in the $800-$900 range.  I think though that if you build a rifle because you think its cheaper than buying you'll quickly find you aren't saving any money.

Jacques, any chance your son will make more of the clamps to sell?  And, we need pics of the finished product or the write up is incomplete....

If you had some extra time on your hands, you could probably polish the gas piston to look like the original.

You are right about the cost. Here is the October sale, which is about the best deal you will find, at ORF:

S Mfg hic-cap receiver cut to military spec $279.95 (229.95)
US Mfg Czech style muzzle break $39.95 (29.95)
US Mfg FCG $115.95
US Mfg SS Gas Piston $19.95
US Mfg (set of 2 axis pins with clips, work in ORF, Slovak, and TGI guns) $9.95 a set
VZ58 Straight Stock Parts kit, exc condition, 1 30rd magazine $119.95ea

On Sale just the parts alone are : $525 (on sale)
Dros : $70 (add transfer fees shipping etc etc)
A good paint : $25
Park Solution : $50

More like $670 - $800 for total cost. If you have to buy tools and stuff.......

This is much like the whole build it yourself thing going on. It is cheaper to buy one than build it. Parts kits and everything else are just way to expensive.
I will add pics later

I can't imagine the receivers will go up in price very much.  I might just put a couple of parts kits away for a rainy day.

$229 is about right for a milled receiver. I don't think that will go down though. Those take a lot of machine time. But the parts kits, they were $69 in February. And now they are 120-190. They will probably go up.
