Well, Good afternoon, All! I have been up about an hour now...last night was a loooong night.
Right at10:30, we got a call from my Mother In Law, who lives in upper Sylmar, that there was a big fire starting near her. She had gone outside to see the burning hills and talk with neighbors. Somehow she tripped and hit her head on a curb, we now know she broke a bone in her face over her eye.
So she was very groggy and home alone, she asked us to come help. She had a concussion bad, needed a ride to the hospital, but also need to get valuables etc out o the house because the fires were close. Wife and I jumped in the car around 10:30 or so and raced up to Sylmar. Freeway off ramps were closed, but being locals we knew where to get off a few off ramps away and back track throught the side streets. Streets were crazy busy with people evacuating, we were about the only ones driving towards the fire for sure. Got to the MIlLs house, MIL looked bad and was hurt bad for sure. She wanted the valuables out of the house, she was trying to make a pile...good new her son who lives there showed up a couple minutes later. My wife took her mom to the hospital, BIL and I started packing up some items and wetting down the roof and yard while we still had water pressure. Winds were howling, smoke so thick you could not see 50', ash and chunks of dirt and burnt wood flying in the air. There were other neighbors out doing the same thing, loading cars and wetting roofs. Many homes were dark andsilent as the owners had left already. We kept up a constant patrol every few minutes all night, watching the street and local houses for embers / spot fires. Lots of sirens, roof-top height helicopters, loud speakers broadcasting for all to evacuate, of course, we stayed. There was a huge explosion we saw and heard around midnight a couple blocks away, must have been a power transformer because then there was a huge flash of electric light, and the streets around us went dark.
Fire got as close as two blocks, but we were all OK on our street there. I had some breathing filters and safety glasses (FAIL: use motorcycle goggles!) that we used when outside, we were covered in black ash and soot...in eyes, ears, hair, clothes, everywhere.
MIL is at hospital for surgery today, I drove back home to here at 6:00AM and got a few hours of sleep. We a were very lucky, some were not, it sure was a tough long night.

And the Yorba Linda fire is right near my day job, so still excitement ahead.

ASR is definitly going to be closed this weeked, the Osborne offramp and Foothill Blvd are closed now.

I'm whipped, tired, coughing up dirt and soot.

Fortunately, no zombies!

Oji, hope your MIL feels better soon.  Kind of a reminder of how things can go from bad to worse pretty quickly, but thankfully she still has the house.

Hey all, back from shooting the 9mm AR. A few bugs to work out.

- The pin for the trigger is working it's way out

There are 2-different mags he got. SOme were from 44mag.com and some came with the conersion kit. The followers on them are different. The ones that came with it work great, the others do not.

Gunnaria, where did you get that picture of a Remington made Mosin? Is that a joke, or did they actually make that?

Remmington and WestingHouse acutally made some MN during WWI

IIRC some got Finned even!  And lots got sold thru the NRA as surplus, I read once some made it to Mexico but I can't verify this.

I wonder why 7.62x54r ammo seemed rare though before the fall of the USSR.  There would have been the Remington and Westinghouse riles in the USA before the surplus imports plus some Finn rifles as well, I think they came in as early as the 1980's.

Not totally, I see them sometimes. Try gunboards.com and mosin-nagant.net for more info.

Plus if you add the stains from his pool table, this young buck has been having a good time. ;)

I'd bet money half of those are lotion stains

"Gun Oil" or KY?

My sister's truck used to look like that.  Now that she has two cupholders....  One holds a Diet Pepsi, the other one holds an empty Diet Pepsi with two swallows left.  The cigarette butts go in the empty Diet Pepsi.  Then, she gets in the truck with a new Diet Pepsi, the old one shuffles right as the new ashtray, and the old one goes on the floor.  Or whats left of the floor, or whats left of the front seat, or the backseat floor, or whats left of the backseat floor, or the back seat, or whats left of the backseat, or where ever, or whats left of wherever, until she can't even roll her windows down for fear of littering.

AND

don't even touch her recycling....

I still want to meet your sis, she seems interesting.  Did you send her the special food pics?  lol

I would like to hear how that does after you got it all dialed in.

In the next few weeks i plan to buy maybe 100 rounds of match ammo and a spotting scope and have a WHOLE day to sight it in and learn how to shoot through a scope

Maybe me or Randall can help, maybe.

Gee... I wonder why I said I'd have to travel to use my own gun?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Could ... could it ... could it be it would be in another state where that's legal?! OMFG, no way!!
!

Your sarcasm was all it took. These forums are not for you to stir trouble. You post asking for an illegal Uzi and then berate those that question it. I have had enough of the egotistical replies this week and have a short leash. You will receive 2 days here as well. Think then post please.

Geez that was all it took for a DS ban!  I remember the Uzi thread, I didn't realize it was that bad.

[Wow you do get it, don't call it an Uzi and it wont give people headaches. That is why we call them OLL's. After that dont get bent when you are corrected.

So can you go ban everyone for calling their OLL's AR15's then? Or go give them crap about it over and over and over and tell them it's illegal for them to have an AR15?

Will you do me a favor and start deleting all the threads people asking for help acquiring an AR15 or help building an AR15 because in your view they are asking to build an illegal weapon that can not be transferred here in CA.

I am afriad to admit DS may have a good point with this comparison.

Is it a real pearl on the end?  I have seen stuff like this in gold, I think Alicia Keys has a gold Ak pendant.  I have seen Tupan with a gold Python one in pics.
