Server Move and Outage Reports / Re: dot net down 1/13/16 6:38am?

Well, since .net is down and the day is blown, I'll think that I'll drive to LA

2
Why not put a message on the .net page to tell people that Calguns.org is the alternate site when the .net is down?

General Gun Discussion / Re: What's your usual range?

I usually shoot on a private range on a friend's cattle ranch.  I went yesterday to test some 375 H&H loads and cleared some tall sagebrush so I can now shoot from the 300 and 400 yard lines.

Not trying to test Y'all mods, but noticed those, "blue post" of mine gone.

If it's still verboten here, I'm cool with that, won't test yer patients.

Just let me know.

There's no telling how "yer patients" would react to testing.

That looks like a ton of fun.

It is, the rains came in that evening or else we would have spent the next day shooting them. We had about 20 guns in the cabin ready to shoot all day but the weather got us.

You bumped a seven year old post to say that?

The funny thing is that the guy shooting a 338 Lapua missed it and the guy with the 20" barreled, suppressed 308 Win got the kill.   The shooter matters.

It didn't think to run away when a bullet hit nearby?

Contrary to popular opinion, animals don't know what bullets are.   All it heard was the sonic crack and it wasn't scared of that.

Outdoors, Hunting and Fishing / Long distance goat

The first hunting post in about 6 years.

While I was in New Zealand last week, some of the guys were shooting at goats across the canyon.  The white spot in the middle of the photo below is a cliff face at 882 meters (946 yards).

This is a white goat next to the cliff face at 58X magnification.  Unfortunately when it was hit it rolled down behind the trees to the left, so I didn't get a good after shot photo.

It was hit with a suppressed 308 Win and the 175 grain Lapua Scenar.

I got some reloading done.   375 H&H with a 200 grain copper bullet from Australian Copper Projectiles.  I loaded some up with H4895 and BLC-(2) trying for 3200 fps.

What action is the rifle? I was just poking around the Hodgdon website and saw their listing for H4895 with a 200 grain slug at max load pulling 2918 FPS with 74 grains.

My Model 70 Winchester.  I'm using the all copper bullets that are land diameter with driving bands so the engraving pressure is a lot less than for a cup and core bullet.  This usually lets me add more powder and get more velocity.

Hodgdon says that I can get 3,195 fps with 87 grains of BLC-(2).  I loaded 83, 84, 85 and 86 grains and at the top load the powder is filling the case to the neck and I'm compressing the powder charge already just seating the bullet.
I'm using a 6" drop tube but the ball powder doesn't settle much.

10 "minuets" my arse!   :P

Well, since a "Minuet" is a French dance from the 18th century and was about 10 minutes long or so.  I figured that .Net should be back on in about an hour and a half.
