Announcements and Suggestions / Re: Migration Update
« on: April 18, 2024, 08:52:56 AM »
Alright. Let me preface this post by saying that I'm a CGN lifetime contributor. AKA I'm kind of a big deal.

Now my demand: Kes, if you don't get .net up and running in the next 2 hours, I'm going to wait longer.

Carry on...

Still cannot upload pics on .net, Kest. Have you tried resetting your router? Maybe its time to get transferred to tier II technical support.

I could get you the number for windows wirus support. His name is Robert Robertson and he works for Windows.

You'll soon be meandering in dark alleys, looking to score a login password. Trying to sell a broken VCR for a username.

His new dealership was the same distance away, with half or less of the commute time.

His main role was to head up the diesel department and train three apprentices while he was at it.

In a few months time he became a key member of the service department where he continues his leadership role. Only time will tell what's next for James. He only hopes continue his story with a long and fruitful career filled with success.

Since picking up a wrench at the Service department, James' mom has never had to pay to get her car fixed...

He enjoyed this new shop for 4 years. The only bad thing about the place was the commute. It was 35 miles away but took 1.5 hours to get there and 1.75 to 2 hours to get home.

Sometimes, the 2 closest ways to get from his house to work had major accidents at the same time. James would have to call and tell them he doesn't know when he would be in. Over the 4 years, traffic got steadily worse. It would be the reason he had to say goodbye to that dealership...

He found another job that paid by the hour. It was there, he finally got certified in automatic transmissions. But because his mail role was diesel and steering/ suspension, he only got to perform minor diagnostics and repairs on transmissions.

Valve bodies, front pumps, shift solenoids, etc... But even to this day, no major system component replacements or overhauls performed. He was not unwilling but the oportunity never came up.

It took a toll on James and his home life. The long hours that would even include Saturday's left no time with family. Couple that with multiple management changes (8 in 4 years) and an overall instability in the workplace, James decided to move on again...

He would start work at 7:00 am and write service until 6:00pm. From 6:00pm to 10:00 pm and often times later, James would work in an empty shop, on diesels that needed to be done.

He was compensated accordingly by the management for his extra effort. He even gained a loyal customer or two in the process since their service advisor was also their technician...

He worked at that shop for 4 years, becoming a team leader and receiving 2 more raises. He learned a lot about the behind-the-scenes aspect of the dealership in that time. He even took a crack at the service advisor position but failed horribly. He never realized how much more of a salesman that position required somone to be.

There was a span of a couple of months where one of the other diesel technicians got injured and could not work. Much of the diesel work wasn't getting done so James stepped up...

At his new dealership, James quickly settled in and enjoyed another raise. $29.00 flat rate. He continued to work on all aspects of diagnosis and repair, except automatic transmissions. His main job was still diesel diagnostic/ repair.

He was no all star at any one thing but he was competent all around. Something that he learned was important as a flat rate technician. If he ran out of one type of work, he would do another so as not to be sent home early when it was slow...

Since James already had certifications in steering/ suspension, diesel engine diagnostics and repair, he decided to continue his training and go for certifications in gasoline engines, climate control, brakes, electrical systems and a couple of other odd-ball areas like the manufacturer's horrendous electric "golf cart".

He suspected that automatic transmission was some sort of black magic, thus, he was saving that certification for last...

It was deja vu all over again. No one experienced with diesel diagnostics and repair was at the shop. James relied heavily on his continued training, the workshop manual and even the technical asistance hotline, offered by the manufacturer.

He made many calls to the "hotline", always indicating his lack of experience to the engineers. Most engineers took the extra time to teach James "the ropes" on the fly. Something James would never forget...

He even got another raise to $11.00 flat rate. Just as James was settled in his position and was beating the flat rate times for most jobs, the shop's only diesel technician quit.

Once again, management decided to place James in the vacant position. As it turns out, it was easier to find another steering/ suspension tech than a diesel tech...

It took him almost a year to become competent on vehicle front ends and alignment proceedures. Since there was no one else in the shop who could help teach him, he relied on the workshop manual and lots of trial and error.
