Just picked up my lower reciever today for my AR-15. A few more pins and I'm +1 evil black rifle. This is my first AR. I'm stoked. I just need to find some affordable optics. The upper is flat-top so no iron sights. It's a .223 double star lower, an armalite upper 20", with YHM quad rails. :-P When I get home for work I'll be up working on it and I'll post some yummy pictures.

What distance you want to shoot ? Find a used scope.

I thought about that. However, I have to broaden my repertoire. I have a Howa M1500 thats 300 win mag, that's my long distance gun. I need this one to be a lil more close quarters oriented. Gotta get ready for SHTF man!

Price shouldn't be your 1st concern.  Buy something worthy of the gun.

You bought a 20" rifle.  Why not buy a low power optic?  If you really want a red dot, try the Vortex Strikefire from Liberty Optics.

I agree that price shouldn't be my first concern, but it is. Because I don't have that much money. I can't very well spend money I don't have, but I want to shoot my rifle. Tough to do without optics. So I wish you guys would quit dogging on me. There's nothing I can do about my financial situation. And in my personal opinion, you'd have to be just about stupid to spend the same amount of money on an AIMING DEVICE, as you do on your rifle! That's rediculous! All it is, is manufacturers preying on the fact that guys like guns and having the best toys. I refuse to pay 5-600 bucks on an AIMpoint or EOTech. Even 200-300 bucks just seems ludicrous to me.

With a 20" barrel, that red dot will be under power - Go with the 1x4 something - Millett would be nice, round +200 and get a mount  -

I actually bought one of those for my Kel-Tec once - I couldn't get it to hold zero for crap.
