ID Will Be Required In California For Porn, Not For Voting
« on: April 24, 2024, 01:03:53 AM »
I saw this in the news rotation and (ahem), somehow, thought of the membership here.

California lawmakers approve bill that would make you show ID before looking at porn - https://www.yahoo.com/news/california-lawmakers-approve-bill-show-115500256.html

Quote
Look at online porn? Soon, you might have to provide a credit card or government ID in order to do so.

Both Democratic and Republican lawmakers on the Assembly Privacy and Consumer Protection Committee last week sided with conservative religious organizations against LGBTQ, reproductive health and civil liberty advocacy groups and voted unanimously in favor of AB 3080, a bill by Assemblyman Juan Alanis, R-Modesto, that would require pornographic websites "to take reasonable steps to ensure" that only adults are looking at them...

Good luck. Any of the VPN's are already an easy bypass to the states, Utah, Arkansas, Mississippi, Virginia, Montana, Texas, who have enacted these laws. I am certainly for restricting access to porn for minors. But the Pandora's Box that is the internet, not to mention the plethora of sites that are not indexed by search engines, that are filed with nefarious content and illegal services, but can be easily accessed by Tor, that governments are completely inept at policing.

You can readily buy bank account and credit card information on the dark web. Only .014% of identity thieves are ever arrested. The idea that government can implement any meaningful policing of the internet is laughable.

Colored and poor people are just too stupid to obtain free government IDs in order to vote.  We just have to accept that as fact.

The bill ignores sites like X (Twatter) where there is porn-a-plenty, but since it does not account for 1/3 of the content will still be allowed.  phew, I am saved

I was thinking about it earlier and agree that such can't be, effectively, policed in any kind of coherent or consistent manner.

I wonder, however, what Liberals hope to gain from placing such restrictions on that type of fare.  Normally, it's Conservatives who get up in arms over it.  Libertarians don't much care and most folks don't even recognize its existence in town and, if they do, they simply steer clear.

In this State, it's not 'paranoia' to wonder what the motivation ACTUALLY is when the Left starts pushing this kind of thing.  More to the point, what is their intended use? Could it simply be a 'distraction' from the budget deficit or should we expect to start hearing about the supposed connection between porn, guns, and 'terrorists?'  We saw it a couple of years ago in West Virginia. . .

On guns, Governor Justice focuses on porn, profanity, social media, video games, mental health - https://wvmetronews.com/2022/05/31/on-guns-governor-justice-focuses-on-porn-profanity-social-media-video-games-mental-health/

We've even heard it from Republicans in 2018 - Tennessee Republican suggests porn to blame for gun violence - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/tennessee-republican-suggests-porn-to-blame-for-gun-violence/

Back in 2011, one author mused. . . https://www.thepublicdiscourse.com/2011/08/3651/

Quote
I wonder whether the pornography of today - now ubiquitous and increasingly grotesque - is one of the influences warping the mentality of those who aspire to or who actually go on to engage in ever more grotesque public violence.

National security?  Could this be another brick in the facade Newsom supposedly isn't building in terms of his 'national presence' with an eye toward higher office?

In other words, whether you'd like to see it 'gone' from the public square or not, when the free love and nickel beer progeny begin banging the gong, it doesn't hurt to start looking around to see if there are other 'warning signs' as to where they might be headed.

Then again, such concerns could simply be a neurotic disorder engendered from living in State where such can be and has been another means by which they claim 'legitimacy' in separating you from your guns with an eye toward 'public safety.'  Right?

It would be a whole lot more feasible to enact a voting ID system that it would to enact an effective online porn ID scheme.

The goal is 100% disarmament, of at least, everyone who knows what they are properly used for.
