Off Topic Discussion / Re: CG.NET ?
« on: April 30, 2024, 08:41:36 AM »
.net is now working well enough for me but I just can't get behind the new forum look. It's horrible.

I did fiddle around with the "forum style" and managed to find something other than the gawdawful baby-blue-font-color-against-stark-white-background...

fiddled a bit w/ the forum "look".

Top right of any page, click username for a drop-down menu...

User Settings > Account > (fill in your email, repeat [every time you wish to try another forum style]) > Forum > scroll down to Themes then select different themes to see how they appear once Changes are Saved.

Through trial and error, the most-pleasant presentation for my tastes (and eyes) color-wise and for background is the Wood theme for it's green and brown effect. The Wood theme also softens the harsh white background. "Denim" is another but the forum index appears w/ a red font. No bueno.

The default and vB5 are the styles that have the CALGUNS logo appear - all the others display "vBulletin", but in a rope-look font western theme.

I am going to miss the avatars here. I might have to, in inimitable calguns' style, do BOTH!

;D

« on: April 29, 2024, 07:55:21 PM »
I was able to log on, but only got access to my forum profile.

From there! however I was able to see the Forum Index. When I clicked on a subforum, screen went white and saw the Infinity Timer again.

Same old.

Is this new forum software on the same server that .net had been using recently?

Off Topic Discussion / Re: Where's the 'What's For Dinner' Thread?
« on: April 28, 2024, 11:14:42 AM »
I will add that when I was cycling on a more-serious level, training for a Century ride, I did wear the ubiquitious, necessary for long hours in the saddle appropriate clothing and the correct shoes. I did this about the time when clipless pedals were making inroads.

Since I also mountain biked (did the Solvang Century on a mountain bike and fat slicks) I used toe clips w/ their leather straps. If you used the screw-on buttons at the very end of the strap you could easily reach down at the top of each pedal stroke and either tighten or loosen the strap. The button served as the loosen stop.

If you needed to put a foot down for balance either when stopped abruptly or about to biff, you could easily twist your foot free from the pedal and toe clips/strap cage. Never an issue for me.

Not having dinner at the moment but a very late breakfast of fresh eggs scrambled w/ applewood smoked salami slices cut into squares, topped w/ melted sharp cheddar, Ezekiel toast and butter and rich, black coffee. ymmm!

I think I fit in better with mountain and/or farmer/rancher white people more than beach white people. Maybe that is what it was. These are just silly generalizations, of course.

I'm a little bit o' mountain, farmer and beach. I have in the past and may in the future ride my beach cruiser wearing a t-shirt, shorts and flipflopz on mah feets.

A beach cruiser-style bicycle, for me, anyway, is a rolling beach chair.

Venice Beach to Santa Monica Pier used to be a favorite way to spend some time but I haven't been down there since well before the Dempanic. I'm afeard o' the homelessnesses and today's freaks because they're Advanced Freaks, transmogrified from the pleasant freaks of yesteryear's Venice Beach Cultural Center of the Universe vibe.

Never a doubt here.

^^ This x1000

Never any doubt in my mind since day one.

How anyone could be undecided between President Trump and a potato who is hell bent on destroying this country is beyond me.

Best President we ever had. TRUMP knows how to run this country and while he will be inheriting an utter clusterf***, he will right this ship in no uncertain terms.

God bless DJT. TRUMP! 2024!

I like the livery on that Porsche GT car!

The "track" you show us is pit lane.

That Penske layout is stunning. Will's car is on the scales, checking corner weights.

I missed the first two Long Beach street-circuit motor racing events in '76 and '77 but was there for the first F1 event in '78. While Mario didn't win that particular race, iirc he did win the FIA F1 World Championship that year. It was also the year that Tyrrel ran the 6-wheel car.

I went to several other F1 events at Long Beach but have never been to an Indycar event, there. The whole weekend looks like a lot of fun w/ lots of things to see and do, and with the southern California spring weather on the Pacific coast, it just doesn't get much better (maybe Monaco).

Thanks for the neat photos!

Dave, we have always liked you but your comment hits below the belt.

Go sit in your corner.

cgn dot net is not dead, although it is nonfunctional at the moment. When it returns, we may not like the look of any new forum software interface but those things are streamlined to the point where you'd think you wound up in some preschool somewhere. They look horrible. I hope I'm wrong but TheHighRoad and Marlin Owners suffered similar fates.

As to when? we might see a renewed cgn? Who the heck knows. For our Fearless Leader, the Kezzy-boo (lol fighterpilot) found themselves in a perfect storm of having their great forum on an aging-but-still-functioning (and good-looking) vBulletin forum software platform, a server host that all of a sudden wanted to bail out of the business, a server change (last year, when the apostrophe problems appeared) and/or some Tapatalk b.s... a death in the immediate family... all at once.

We're willing to work with that. It's a little late to point fingers so let's just look forward to any new calguns dot net.

And you're still alright w/ me.

I know who Bill Marr is and who he may continue to be...

ETA for it's glorious grand reopening range from TWO WEEKS to SIX MONTHS.

There's another thread on the topic in a different sub; one of the two subforums listed at the top of the Index.

Meanwhile, it's OT bo0bs n' stuff.

^ ^ ^ He LIVES! and reaches for toys.

More wonderful artwork from our friend and intrepid pol insider, The Illustrious! WingDings.

Six months! I'll be surprised if .net is up and running smoothly before then. Might pay to keep our expectations low as far as any timeline goes and considering golfish's recent report.

Well I like MY other one better, but we'll go by the honor system.

The "honor system"?

Where:

She offers her honor.
He honors her offer.
Then all night long
it was honher and offher.

One cannot be a conservative with a name like "Zhyla". No frickin' way.

Meanwhile, this was in an email from the Post Millennial... is that another young conservative blog?

Either way...

Thanks Apples.  In the upside down, I wasn't sure being 2+/1- was a good thing.  Though in truth, I meant no disrespect, more recognition for the solid quotations.  Love me some Bob Seger.  I can listen to that greatest hits on repeat dozens of times, easy.

My pleasure. And "disrespect" was too strong a word but naturally we be poking fun and the entire scenario.

You deserve another smite! lol

ACfixer, you do realize that that is "Night Moves" by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, not Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, right?

I smite thee! for disrespecting the Lordship of this thread.
