I heard it was up off the coast of Eureka, not near SF Bay.  The street poopers barely shook there.

This is why I won't even join that site.  Why bother supporting something that's platform is an anti-1A format because they don't want their liberal viewpoints challenged in any way?  COVID and the aftermath was a horrible attack on our country and things that went wrong must be corrected with laws so they never happen again.  It NEEDS to be discussed and light brought to the evil that occurred so it can be prevented in the future.

Notice that during COVID anyone questioning the narrative were silenced and now are being silenced again for bringing up new findings.  Who is doing the silencing in both cases??

Yeah, that's all going to change in a little over a month.  And here in CA we've got Bonta and Newscum running around saying they will invoke lawfare against Trump's admin to stop any/all of his policy decisions. (facepalm emoji)

Ok, I know ZERO about forums and IT and such.  But at this point, would it not be better to simply scrap the current iteration of Calguns and completely restart the forum on a modern forum platform/provider?  I realize we'd be losing all the history.  But the history is useless anyway if you can't even get to the forum.  At least the forum would live on.

Or is this a horrible idea?  I don't know enough about these things to know if this is horrible.

Rebuilding from scratch would change everything, it would be from nothing with nothing in it.  Unless people are willing to come back and rebuild the threads that were there, there would be whole parts of CGN with nothing in them and probably be that way for a long time.  Also, I'd bet many of the people who left would just see it as a reason not to come back.  BUt the longer this all goes on the chances of survival gets less and less.

Everything that's currently on CG could be placed into a searchable archive so that whatever is wrong with the current database will not continue causing problems with the software which updates/catalogs it.  Lots of forums that have large databases do this to streamline the search/post/backup processes.

i'm not smart enough to know the complicated merging, moving to a bigger server, etc. i thinks kes wanted to save the contents and history but it's not happening. we saw his efforts in trying to make it work but it keep getting worse.

he's probably trying to for the last time before making a decision to start with a clean slate.

If only he let us know...

Site troubles are one thing. But it sure would be nice to get a little update once in a while. At least tell us what is going on.

true! he's probably frustrated, pulling his hair out and swollen hand for punching the wall that's why he's not able to type to give us an update.   ;D

I'm wondering if for some reason he can't login to .NET/.ORG, it's really strange that we haven't heard anything from him in over 2 months.

The email list is at 26 members, with 3 members who are not verified yet.
I need verification of membership on .NET/.ORG from the following people (or a longstanding member who's knows any of the following to 'vouch' for them).

Good evening
So what's the plan?
I understand the list is for if we lose contact on both .org & .net.
Does that mean you hold it in trust until then?
Should all contributors receive a copy?
That's how our neighborhood watch list worked, everyone who added their name & number got a copy.

Well, I didn't think that people would want their email sent to all members of the list unless we actually lost the .NET website so that's why I was keeping it in 'trust' until the time it became necessary.  Also I didn't think it would be fair to the Calguns forum (greater membership) to start up offline discussion via e-mail before we know the fate of .NET/.ORG.

That's why I stated in the initial post that I wouldn't invoke the email list until we were fairly sure that .NET was permanently down, which also includes loss of contact to -some- of the members via .ORG.

I don't think it's fair to the members who signed up for the email list to change the criteria for opening up email communication in the manner that I initially posted, do you?

can the police enforcement be removed and just stick to investigation?

I really don't think the government should have the authority to 'investigate' any of it's citizens to begin with.  That's why people like J. Edgar Hoover had so much power, in some respects he had more power than the POTUS's he served under.  That's why he was the head of the FBI from 1935 to 1972, he had dirt on everyone and that's what kept him in as the head of the FBI.

9
There's never been any question about the separation of powers and who has sovereign authority.  The question has always been one of actual enforcement.  Just like the 3 Judge Panel which made this decision is not truly the 'determinative' factor.  It is a step in the theoretical underpinnings of authority.  But, it still comes down to budgets, who exercises authority in a given location/context, and who is actually expected to carry things out.

I suspect that's why the lead sentence says: "Sanctuary policies across the United States may be in jeopardy..." (italics emphasis mine)

While that may be true -on paper- we have learned that the judicial branch is largely/mostly controlled by political power/influence/corruption.  The swampy 9'th circuit may be making a statement that they see the handwriting on the wall and they want to be on the right side of history despite doing the deeds of the swamp for all of these years prior.

Kash didn't say he wants to break it up, but he did say he wants to spread it around outside of DC. No more centralization of power.

So spread the swampy FBI around and make it ooze everywhere?  There will always be a centralized HQ for it in DC at the J. Edgar Hoover building (oh, the Irony of it being named after him) (facepalm emoji)

J Edgar Hoover, the cross dresser!

Yep, the cross dressing queer who had to have dirt on EVERYONE so he could remain hidden and untouchable. (double facepalm emoji)

I'm starting to see a pattern.  When a certain user from another forum is on, everything works and it's fast.  Huh, go figure.

Huh.....yeah, he seems to be commenting every time its up.

He sure has a lot of time to wait for CG to be running, I guess he has nothing better to do, or somehow he knows exactly when it's up/running?

Unfortunately Patel already let the cat out of the bag.  He wants to "shut down the FBI".  That's going to stir the swamp creature pot in the Senate (RINOS), who won't confirm him, and they'll be exposed for what they are.  I think that's the reason Trump picked Patel.  He's not going go be FBI director, Trump's trolling for swamp creatures.

I'm hopeful, but  not holding my breatb that .net will be fixed. TIC, you have got to be the most optimistic person that I have ever encountered. I truly hope that you are correct in your optimism, however, my gut feeling is that cgn has been abandoned and will never recover. I really hope I am wrong because as others have said, the amount of information that has been posted there over the years 8s invaluable.

I don't recall what your health problems are, but I wish you the best of luck in overcoming them.

It's not so much 'optimism' as it is an unwillingness to call it dead given that we know it's beyond Kestryll's technical abilities and that DrJonesUSA has already posted (on the other site and not here or .net) that he hasn't had much time to dedicate to it.  Yes.  I too have been left somewhat askance in regard to why he'd post on a 'competing' site rather than on the site he's ostensibly trying to fix, but I'll keep my suspicions to myself for now.

Insofar as my health problems, the last 'major' one was a little over two years ago; but, with a couple of 'minor' ones after that.  I never really got a chance to fully recover from the major one and have been forced to deal with the 'after effects' ever since.  Naturally, the remedies and the after effects create their own... 'challenges.'  Some things in Life are and can be 'overcome.'  Other things just have to be 'endured' as the way things are now and, sometimes, adjusting to that new reality simply requires a break or a 'release' or both.   ;)

But, that leads back to what's happening with Kestryll and the site.  Maybe just a word of good cheer, or at least a 'neutral' cheer, on one or both of the sites actually impacted, would be a good idea in the Season of Good Cheer.

You mean instead of the "For F's Sake Kes, Get It Together" thread?  ???  ;D

It's no wonder we haven't seen/heard from him for months with 'cheer' like that coming his way from all over the place.  ::)

Yeah, because showing concern over the future of .net is a horrible thing?  Yup, watching an upstart site suck away so many long time members and the .net site just languishing for months on end is a great thing for the owner?  Its obvious that the other site is just opportunistic, starting up right when major problems started on .net and shouldn't be a major concern for the owner?  I guess I am guilty of not wanting .net to die.  If I'm showing more concern, well, I'm sorry.

It was sarcasm/humor in regard to the post by TiC to spread some "Holiday Cheer". :-\  I understand your frustration, most people (including myself) are frustrated.  But it's like we are all standing at the ticket counter yelling at the agent because the flight is delayed.  I don't think Kes has direct control over the 'fix' or the timeline for the 'fix'.  Yep, there's a growing concern that the flight will be 'cancelled' as well, including myself.  I encourage you to sign up for the e-mail list, swalt, I don't see your username on it yet.

12/1 and still 504's.  Not that I expected that it would have been fixed over Thanksgiving weekend though.  And with Christmas coming up I will assume there will be little time to get it up and running.  I guess my prediction, made so many months earlier that I don't even remember what thread or what site I said it on, will be true.  "After the new year" seems to be the case but who knows if even the

End of November could be either a move to another server, or .NET is going offline permanently.  I guess we'll know in a few days.

Everyone who's PM'd me on .ORG has been added.  My yahoo email address had several emails that went to spam. Some of them didn't have .NET or .ORG usernames in the email.  I'll follow up with them but please, send your .ORG or .NET username in the first email you send so I'll know who you are and can add you to our mailing list directly.

Announcements and Suggestions / Re: Any plans to restore CG.NET??
« on: December 01, 2024, 04:36:18 AM »
So far as we know it's not abandoned.  Kes 'hired' a guy who offered services (for free) to repair it after the disaster of moving from a cloud server to a dedicated server (farm).  Repairs -should- be in progress, but so many people have thrown their hands up in the air and left or stopped supporting .NET (financially) it remains to be seen if it will survive until it's fixed or beyond.

So CG was running/fast until this evening, now it's down with 504 timeout error again.

We're up to about 15 members on e-mail list, hopefully more will join once .NET comes back up again.

Email to the following address if you can't get online to .NET and don't have a login here to PM me.  You must be a member of .NET that I can verify or know who you are from prior post history to be added (to avoid adding spammers to our list).

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Day with family and friends!  We have so much to be thankful for, and look forward to in the next few years!  Let's not let the issue of .NET put a stop to or damper on that.

Anyone concerned about 'politics'/affiliations/disagreements please don't, it's just important to keep the CG 'family' together.  Everyone's welcome if it goes to e-mails, and we'll discuss setting up a new 'home' from there.

Not sure you're going to get an answer. Kes hasn't even been on THIS site since October.

Kestryll
Last Active:October 08, 2024, 06:44:07 PM

Which again brings up the question again of -why- hasn't he been active here, or on .NET.  I don't think he just threw in the towel and walked away.

Has anyone considered the possibility that the site(s) have been hijacked and Kes can't reply or post?

Does anyone have a phone number or email contact for him that could get in touch with him directly?  Librarian? Ivanimal? Kimber-SS? Or any other former mods of .NET?

I'm growing concerned that .NET and .ORG will permanently go down.  If you would like to be part of an e-mail list/group please send me via Private Message here on .ORG your e-mail address and I will start building a list of contacts.

Let's just say you need to be someone I recognize from either .NET or .ORG, someone I don't know with only a post or two here won't make the mailing list.

I'll check here daily and copy anyone's email who PM's me to an offline list so it will be as up to date as possible and won't get lost if .ORG goes down. I will only invoke the mailing list if we know for sure that .NET and .ORG have gone down permanently.

UPDATE:

Anyone who can't login and PM can send a request to join our growing e-mail list to the following address:

It worked last night after I got home yesterday around 1730 hrs.  It worked until I went to bed.  This morning, nothing but 504's.

FFS Kes, get the act together!!  Its been long enough to not get CGN running like it should!!  You had a very good thing going with CGN, get it together!!

Keep in mind that Kes handed off admin/site repair to DrJonesUSA over 2 months ago, at the strong/stern request of members who were complaining about the site being slow.  He did what people asked him to do, went and got outside (albeit donated time for) help.  So please, let's stop throwing Kes under the bus about it, I'm pretty sure he's done everything he can do at this point.
