I remember reading that there were no coyotes in the US east of the Mississippi River until sometime in the 1980's but they are now found in all contiguous US states.  We have a big of pack that roams about 50 square miles around our place.  I've killed eight in the last two and a half years and I see them all the time on my game cameras.

I think that there is dew on the camera lens, it didn't focus correctly.

I was just mentioning it.  I neither ask for nor demand better service.

After a year of this soup sandwich, I just roll with it.

I got this one on two different cameras last week.  Time to break out the thermal scope and do some night time cleanup.

I moved everything on to a 16", right side charging, 6mm ARC upper.  It shortened the gun overall length 4" and I went with the parkerized barrel to make it a darker rig for night shooting coyotes.  I'm really loving the right-side charging uppers as it's so much easier to operate with a scope installed.

The yellow sticker is dope/scope settings

I got in once this afternoon and made a post.  Now it's back to the timeout message.

Outdoors, Hunting and Fishing / The "oops" deer
« on: November 10, 2024, 05:50:57 AM »
I had two bucks following a hot doe this morning about 7 AM this big guy that I got a photo of Thursday and a smaller buck.

The doe flashed across a clearing 60 yards away and 5 seconds behind her the big ten point was nose to the ground trotting after her.  10 seconds after that, a smaller 8 point was following.

The doe crosses another clearing 40 yards away in about 2 seconds so I ready with the Ruger No.1 RSI (7x57) and as the buck showed in the opening I drove a 160 grain Accubond high and behind his right shoulder.  I was sitting in a 6 foot tall mini tower blind so I was 15 feet higher than the deer, who were downhill.

The doe cut straight across the meadow that I'm sitting over and then the 8 point comes out spraying blood like a fountain.   The 10 point must have given up the chase in the brush and let the 8 point pass him by before they hit the opening that I shot through.

Stevie Wonder could have followed the blood trail and the buck made about 40 -50 yards before he died.

I had a heck of a time loading it in the truck because it weighed more than I did.

200 yards from the basement door.  Using the Hornady 60 grain V-Max.

I just bought a 16" barreled upper in 6mm ARC that I'm going to switch the scope and suppressor to.  The 20" barreled 223 is just a little too long for my taste and I want to step up to the 95 grain Berger or Barnes bullets.

We have a more powerful server, twice the CPU and four times the RAM.

I'm kind of afraid to say this but... let's stress test this thing!

How's that working out for you, Kes?

I'm timing out all day from 4 AM PDT until now

Rifles / Re: Ruger m77 questions
« on: September 07, 2024, 02:32:37 PM »
A lot of the barrels were built by bulk barrel makers like Shaw but there's no way to tell.   I don't know about the trigger, if I don't like a trigger, I just replace them with an aftermarket one.  Re-barreling the M77 Ruger is no more difficult than other brands and is sometimes easier because of the flat bottoms on the receiver giving better leverage than the round bottom receivers.

Rifles / Re: Need Advice on "Pre-64" M70 Stock
« on: September 07, 2024, 02:27:31 PM »
All the pre-64 actions are the same size from 222, 375 H&H.  They just grind the bottom opening and ejection port larger for the longest cartridges and put a block in the magazine well for the shorter cartridges.

Outdoors, Hunting and Fishing / Senior crossbow season opens in a week
« on: August 31, 2024, 04:40:42 PM »
September 7th the Crossbow season opens but the bucks won't start their pre-rut until October so I'm not going to hunt until it cools off.

Here's my tree stand set up.  The blue lines are the paths that the deer take to get to the feeder and salt lick. It's 34 yards from my stand to the Feeder and I've got every area ranged that I see from 13 feet up in the tree.   The wind primarily blows from the south-east here and even if a northern storm comes in, I'm good.

Off Topic Discussion / Re: when to take social security?

I made a spreadsheet that totals the monthly benefits received from the age of retirement, every year until I was 84 years old (estimeted death age) and found out that if I filed after 64 years old I would lose money.  I used the average 2.1 percent average annual increase and the monthly payment amounts on my annual SSA statement as input data.

300 H&H brass is almost impossible to find.  I did find some other hard-to-find brass at North East Target.

 https://nereloading.com/once-fired-300-h-h-hh-magnum-brass-for-reloading-in-stock-free-shipping1.html

It's once fired and less than half the price of new when you can find it.  It come in 100 piece packs.

My coyote night hunting rig.

Thermion scope and a Banish 300 suppressor.  This one's in 223 Wylde but I can swap it to the 6mm ARC upper for the heavier bullets.  I'm considering getting a 300 Blackout upper and going subsonic though to keep from waking the chickens.
