CGN was working great this morning for me until just now.  It was lightning fast in opening pages.  Now the "working" banner, delays and frustration is working well.

After my last post....started working great again....now 504 after multiple attempts.  Bipolar is an apt description as others have noted.

Believe me, I am aware it's still slow, stumped but aware.

I don't think it's a hardware issue, on the first server (4 core/32GB RAM) the cpu was pegged at 100%. This server (8 core/128GB RAM) is running at about 55-65%.
I'm thinking the issue is either a software issue with vBulletin, that they did something to the database to use it on their cloud servers or that it needs some form of server optimization.

A forum member who works in the field has offered help and I've reached out to him.

Is there any update to the progress on repairing .NET, Kes?  Seems to be running faster when it's running, but it's also been down for very long periods of time.

Unable  to open calguns.net.. just sits with the "trying" logo circling.. happens frequently.
Calguns. org opens immediately, for comparison.

Likewise when CG .net opens, and initiate a search in a subforum, it does not complete... wait 30 seconds or more and no resonse.

Good luck in finding causes to fix it...

Yea I notice at 5:30 am I can get on and the site is quick. From 7:30 am or so I get time out and lasts all day until pm hours. This does not seem normal.

We have a more powerful server, twice the CPU and four times the RAM.

I'm kind of afraid to say this but... let's stress test this thing!

How's that working out for you, Kes?

I'm timing out all day from 4 AM PDT until now

When you can get back on .net, take a look at the thread I posted under Issues/Outages/Reports.  The guy he's had working on it posted an update about a week ago on the other site.  His 'evaluation' was that it appeared to be a resource problem overall and might involve a redesign of the way the site is hosted/how many servers, etc.  They were evaluating and going to discuss it in a 'meeting' with the technical team.

Since then, so far as I know, there haven't been any additional updates.

ETA: Don't ask me why he's 'updating' on the other site, but not on Calguns.  Others are also asking.

I've tried off and on for several weeks, and have been unable to open the forum Calguns.net but can get into Calguns.org just fine...

Anything I can do differently to perhaps get into the site??

RRRRonald, sorry to say it's just hit or miss.  To my knowledge there is nothing special you can do.  No logic, no pattern so like the rest of us good luck and even if you get on, once it starts "WORKING" usually a 504 gateway error will eventually follow.

Good Luck

Kyle

I got on earlier after trying during the morning.  It had me sign in so I thought "Is it fixed????"  It was fast, snappy, navigable and I was able to make a few posts and read some threads.  This last hour, 504's and the little wheel is spinning as I type.  My hopes and dreams were crushed, like a TDS sufferer who discovers it was all lies and Democrats are evil.   :'(

What's the story with the main site?  I haven't been able to use it or access it in months effectively.  It's either been dog slow, or unusable altogether.

To sum it up, the upgrade(s) were botched.  There is plenty to read and glean from on this site.  A lot of us have been able to log on but what time or what day has 0 consistency.  Its a crap shoot, so if you just keep trying while your on your computer doing other things your chances of getting on are increased and you can stay on for hours or 5 minutes before it crashes again.  That is all.

Many CGN users have flat out moved on to different sites. I

I haven't given up yet.  Got plenty of other sites to get my 2A fix.  However, I'm not hopeful.
