Gov. Newsom Airs Ad Inviting Floridians to California for More 'Freedom'

California Gov. Gavin Newsom aired some bullshit over the July Fourth weekend, inviting Floridians to California for more "freedom."

"It's Independence Day," Newsom said in the ad, posted to his Twitter. "So let's talk about what's going on in America. Freedom is under attack in your state.

"Republican leaders," he continued, are "banning books, making it harder to vote, restricting speech in classrooms, even criminalizing women and doctors. I urge all of you living in Florida, to join the fight — or join us in California."

Newsom's choice of Florida as a focal point for cultural debate may not be an arbitrary one, as speculation looms that the Democratic governor is eyeing a presidential run in 2024. According to the New York Post, Newsom spent $105,000 for ad spots on Fox News in Florida to position himself as an alternative to popular Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican.

"Stay tuned," Newsom's spokesman Nathan Click told the SF Gate ahead of the airing.

Around the time of Click's comment, Ashley Zavala, who covers the California Capitol for Nexstar Media Group, pointed out that Newsom, "who said he has 'subzero interest' in running for President will reportedly air ads in a state …*checks notes* …2,700 miles away from his own."

The ad comes amid a clash of critiques Newsom waged against DeSantis on issues from COVID-19 policies to critical race theory in schools. But despite it all, the Florida governor, meanwhile, has delighted in the exodus of disaffected Californians bolting for Florida.

"Yes," DeSantis told Fox, "there's a lot of Californians who like what we're doing who are coming, but even the ones that posture against Florida typically find their way here."

DeSantis's press secretary, Christina Pushaw, referenced the ad buy, tweeting, "Californians... aren't you glad you pay 60% of your income in taxes to bankroll fun projects like this?"

California leaks personal information of legal gun owners

Some personal information of concealed carry license holders is available through a public records request

A new dashboard from the California Attorney General’s office has leaked the personal information of thousands of the state’s gun owners.

The California Department of Justice launched its 2022 Firearms Dashboard Portal on Monday. The portal featured data on the state's gun purchases as well as concealed carry license holders.

Users quickly learned that publicly-accessible files – including identifying information of concealed carry permit owners – could be downloaded from the graphics, as The Reload reports. As of Tuesday afternoon, the dashboard appears to have been pulled from the website.

The leaked info included people’s full names, home addresses, dates of birth, and permit issue dates, as confirmed by a lawyer for the California Rifle and Pistol Association that obtained a copy of the data.

Some personal information of concealed carry license holders is available through a public records request.

Additionally, the data revealed the type of permit one holds and whether the person holding the permit is a judge or a member of law enforcement, the report found.

In Los Angeles County alone, 2,891 people with standard licenses had their information compromised by the leak, The Reload stated.

Initially, this information was available to download on the website by downloading the background information behind the graphics, but it had been updated by Tuesday morning so that any personal information was no longer public. As of the afternoon, the state's database site appeared entirely inactive.

California Rifle and Pistol Association President Chuck Michel was not happy with the leak and said that a lawsuit may be coming.

“Vindictive sore loser bureaucrats have endangered peoples lives and invited conflict by illegally releasing confidential private information,” Michel told The Center Square in a statement. “CRPA is working with several legislators and sheriffs to determine the extent of the damage caused by DOJ’s doxing of law abiding gun owners. Litigation is likely.”

Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office could not be immediately reached for comment on Tuesday.

Bonta’s office issued a press release on Monday in announcing the dashboard feature.

“Transparency is key to increasing public trust between law enforcement and the communities we serve,” Attorney General Bonta said in the press release. “As news of tragic mass shootings continue to dominate the news cycle, leaving many with feelings of fear and uncertainty, we must do everything we can to prevent gun violence. One of my continued priorities is to better provide information needed to help advance efforts that strengthen California’s commonsense gun laws.

“Today’s announcement puts power and information into the hands of our communities by helping them better understand the role and potential dangers of firearms within our state.”

California Gov. Gavin Newscum on Friday appointed Andi Mudryk as the state’s second openly transgender judge, and the first to be appointed by the governor.

Mudryk, 58, is a longtime disability rights advocate and attorney, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. Alameda Superior Court Judge Victoria Kolakowski became the state’s first openly transgender judge when she was elected in 2010, KXTV reported.

“Andi Mudryk is a great appointment and will be a wonderful judge,” Kolakowski tweeted, according to the television station. “I’m glad to finally have a trans colleague on the bench in California.”

“She (Kolakowski) is a wonderful person, a wonderful judge,” Mudryk told the Chronicle.

Mudryk’s appointment comes three days after another Newsom appointee became the first Latina to be confirmed to the California Supreme Court. The state's judiciary is among the nation’s most diverse, and has become more so under the governor. https://t.co/asYHqQtlyo
    — San Francisco Chronicle (@sfchronicle) March 26, 2022

Mudryk fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Benjamin Davidian, the Los Angeles Times reported.

“I’m humbled, honored and I’m thrilled,” Mudryk told the newspaper on Friday. “I’m grateful to Gov. Newsom for creating a vision of California for all.”

Mudryk spent the first half of her legal career in private practice, including nearly 11 years with Disability Rights California, the Times reported. She served as managing attorney, director of litigation and deputy director.

She also served as director of litigation and policy advocacy at Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County from 2017 to 2018 and executive director at Disability Rights Advocates in 2017, Newsom’s office said.

Most recently, Mudryk has been the chief deputy director at the state Department of Rehabilitation and was the department’s chief counsel from 2018 to 2020, the Chronicle reported.

“As governors and state legislatures across the country attack the trans community, we applaud Gov. Newsom’s continued commitment to increasing trans representation,” Tony Hoang, executive director of Equality California, said in a statement. “California continues to remind the rest of the country that LGBTQ+ voices are essential to achieve full equality.”

Mudryk earned her law degree from George Washington University Law School in 1989, according to the Times.

Off Topic Discussion / Encouragement?
« on: January 23, 2021, 12:06:44 PM »
Fellow O-L-D guys will know what I'm talking about, so bear with me - maybe YOU'LL be able to explain it to the younger generation, when I'm gone.

I bought my first AK, about a month BEFORE the numbnut shot up the McDonalds in San Diego.  I was 21, Reagan was STILL President, and I was still living in rural NC, where I grew up.  The 1970's and '80's were still VERY much a time of "Mayberry," even within a few miles of Charlotte.  Pickup truck gunracks FULL of guns in high school parking lots were a REAL thing - as was legal open carry.  Nobody gave a second thought to it.

I would soon return to college, where I fell into a good crowd of older students, like myself, who all legally owned guns.  Shooting in the woods, off the Blue Ridge Parkway, was a typical weekend activity for us.  Norinco .223 and 7.62x39 was $.99 / box o' 20.  Blowing through 3,000rds., was only a $149 - well within the budget even of college kids.  New 9mm & .40 handguns typically ran between $300 & $400.  AR15's could be had under $500 - AK's still under $300.  A new Norinco SKS ran between $79 & $99.  And life was good.

I graduated, moved on, and pretty much ignored KLIN - TON I and his gun bans.  Living in NC, and then MS, SC, TX, (central) PA and KY during his insurrection, made ignoring him easy.  Shrub was elected while I was in KY - no great shakes by the TRUMP standard, but better than algore or Horseface, whom he defeated in '04.  After a year & a half of graduate studies in IN, I came here to Pittsburgh - an old, industrial unionized libtard center of the dying rustbelt - but STILL a Class III/NFA legal state, with a SHALL issue CCW (LTCF) policy.  And a city where you can STILL tell the libtards to get OFF, like this!

So I came to Calguns about 9 years AFTER coming here.  I've NEVER been west of San Antonio, or Custer Nat'l. Battlefield in se MT, for reference.  Never even changed PLANES or some such in CA - NEVER set foot there.  Just seemed like a fun board to hang out on.  And it has been.

And I understand - forensically - that you've had a L-O-N-G succession of CRAPPY politicians - from Moon Unit Jerry & Sen. Whinestein, to Pe-LOUSY and now Kamalalala - ding-dong.  PA has CRAPTACULAR leaders, but a bloated State House & Senate leans HEAVILY RURAL Republican, squashing all gun control attempts, as does our state constitution, whose RKBA clause is worded MORE strongly than the 2A!!!   :o

So while I have OFTEN encouraged REAL Americans - trapped behind the Sierras - to emigrate over here to the United States, I have especially - of late - encouraged MORE of you, to stop laying down like wusses to gummint flunkies like Newscum & Schnauzer - GROW A PAIR... - and stand up for yourselves.  To wit:

And I do so, because I cannot GRASP, not LIVING like REAL men; FREE men, and telling the gummint to shove off, when it oversteps its boundaries.   >:(   For you younger guys, maybe it IS all you've known, if you were born and raised there.  But is peace IN chains, really WORTH it?  Is a sunny beach, but no freedom, such a 'GREAT' thing?  Is having the gummint jam a leash up yer @$$, just easier to accept, than personal responsibility, and seeking a better life?

I'm guessing that it is, because so MANY people seem to enjoy it there.  And they tell ME - with my freedoms and liberties - to go take a long walk off a short pier!   ???

I cannot FATHOM that mindset... and cannot reason WITH it either, apparently.  It's like most of the GUN OWNERS even... have Stockholm Syndrome!   :-\

But I reckon I've pestered you enough.  So I'll take my leave of you, with the words of one of the ORIGINAL Sons of Liberty (old guys - explain who they were to the youngsters):

Quote
“If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.”
Samuel Adams

God bless, and good luck.   :(

Governor Polis Launches Bold Signage Plan to Crack Down on Riots

https://rockymountainoyster.com/governor-polis-launches-bold-signage-plan-to-crack-down-on-riots/

Quote
January 15, 2021 ·

After the widespread vandalism and destruction that gripped downtown Denver last year went virtually unchecked, Governor Polis vowed a much harsher stance in 2021 in the form of reminder signs placed across the city.

“It’s time we make the message clear to would-be rioters that we simply will not tolerate it,” Polis said as he introduced his plan on Wednesday. “And what makes that message clearer than ‘Riot Free Zone’ signs?”

After spending approximately $1.2 million in taxpayer dollars to study the issue, Polis concluded that raging mobs generally lack awareness as to the acceptability of riots in their particular location.

The governor outlined additional details about his plan. “Well, first we place the signs. Next, I’ve instructed that during a riot, responding officers should point to the signs. I really think that ought to do it,” he continued. “But if the crowd still won’t disperse, we will stamp them out by distributing ‘No Rioting’ pamphlets which, by the way, include translation for our Spanish-speaking rioters.”

Polis was asked whether any aspect of his plan involves actual intervention. “Well, of course,” he replied. “If things get really out of hand, we will take a much more in-your-face approach to include sign spinners, inflatable tube men, and maybe even using airplane banners.”

If this plan proves a success, the governor intends to launch his “No Homicide Zone” window decal program, which he says should eradicate violent crime statewide.

School rejects teen's gun-toting, flag-waving photo

http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2016/06/10/school-rejects-teens-gun-toting-flag-waving-photo.html?intcmp=hpbt4

Quote
Joshua Bruner is a real-life Captain America.

The 15-year-old country boy from Ringoes, New Jersey is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. He’s a member of two state shooting teams and he serves as a United States Sea Cadet.

Darcy Meys said her son wants to follow in his great-grandfather’s footsteps and enlist in the Marines.

“Josh considers himself to be a patriot,” she told me. “He loves his country.”

A few weeks ago Josh was given an assignment in a photography class at Hunterdon Central Regional High School. He had to take a self-portrait representing self-expression.

So Josh and some of his buddies gathered in a field behind his house and set up a tripod – striking their best male model poses.

Josh climbed atop a four-wheeler. He was holding Old Glory in one hand and a shotgun in the other – a Remington pump action 12-gauge to be precise.

It was, by all accounts, an epic picture that summed up the heart and soul of this teenage patriot.

Now, at Hunterdon Regional kids have to upload their assignments to the school’s Google site. And that’s when Josh learned there was a problem.

His self-portrait was rejected because it violated the school’s gun policy.

“The rules of our school prohibit students from using artwork depicting themselves or another person with any weapon,” the teacher wrote to Mrs. Meys.

Mrs. Meys told me she looked at the school policy and she believes it was referring to actual guns on school property – not a photograph of a gun taken on private property.

“Josh was just showing pride for his country and who he is as a shooter and as a kid who wants to be in the Marines and protect his country and follow in his grandfather’s footsteps,” she told me. “He was not dressed inappropriately. He was not holding the gun incorrectly and He was respecting the flag.”

The school decided to offer Josh a compromise, according to email correspondence between his mother and the teacher.

But it’s really not much of a compromise.

The school agreed to grade Josh’s photograph – but they were adamant that it could not be uploaded onto the school’s server nor could it be publicly displayed.

“He will not be able to upload the image to our server, post them to his Google site or display them in his presentation,” the teacher wrote. “We would like to recognize his work on the portrait but limit the possibility that the photo can be taken out of context.”

Good Lord! It’s not pornography, people. It’s a kid holding Old Glory and a shotgun.

“They are crushing his spirit,” Mrs. Meys told me. “They are stifling his creativity.”

And for that matter – they are in effect telling this child that he cannot take pride in who he is – his identity as an American.

“If it is okay for people to show pride in their sexuality, why can’t my son show pride in his country,” she asked.

I know the answer to that question. These days Gay Pride is in vogue and American Pride is passe.

“I’m supposed to accept guys going into bathrooms with my daughters and girls going into bathrooms with my boys but they won’t accept my kid for just wanting to be a patriot,” she said.

In this age of tolerance and diversity it’s too bad our public school system can’t be more tolerant of red-blooded American patriots like Josh Bruner.

California Lt. Gov. Newsom, lawmakers on collision course over gun control

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/05/02/california-lt-gov-newsom-lawmakers-on-collision-course-over-gun-control.html?intcmp=hpbt1

Quote
California’s Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom and state Democratic lawmakers appear to be on a collision course over a new round of gun control measures.

Newsom, claiming lawmakers are dragging their feet, is collecting thousands of signatures in pursuit of a gun initiative ballot measure in November. But lawmakers say they’re planning to address these issues via legislation, and the initiative could hurt what they’re doing.

Critics also say the proposed California ballot initiative contains a wide variety of restrictive, costly and unreasonable gun and ammunition control measures.

The proposed “Safety for All As of 2016” initiative has 600,000 signatures from California residents, nearly double the number required to be included on the November ballot, Newsom told the Los Angeles Times. He added that what the initiative proposals have in common is “that over the past number of years they have suffered the fate of either being watered down or rejected by the Legislature.”

The signatures still must be validated.

But leading lawmakers, including Democratic Senate President Pro Tem Kevin De Leon, say they are working to address these issues legislatively. In addition, the mandate is extremely difficult to change and will be the subject of a hearing at the Capitol in Sacramento Tuesday.

“California's legislative leaders are busy considering crime bills, while Newsom is circumventing them,” said Michele Hanisee, president of the Association of Los Angeles Deputy District Attorneys, in a written statement and interview with FoxNews.com. “The only way we're going to make progress against violence is through a cooperative effort of law enforcement, legislators, the private sector, and individual citizens who can take some responsibility for their own safety. Self-serving political schemes like Newsom's initiative will only set us back.”

The initiative “carries multiple proposals that were either killed by the Legislature as not workable or vetoed by the governor,” Sam Paredes, executive director of Gun Owners of California, told the LA Times.

“Newsom has collected failed policy issues from the Legislature and put them up as an initiative. It’s going to be a massive effort to defeat him,” Paredes said.

Local law enforcement, including Hanisee and the California Sheriffs Association, claim law-abiding gun owners and law enforcement will suffer if the initiative passes, while criminals will be empowered.

“California's law enforcement officers and prosecutors responsible for fighting criminals and terrorists need more tools to fight crime. Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom's new ballot initiative gives us less,” Hanisee said, adding the proposal is a “rehashed patchwork of impractical, tried and failed ideas that will not help law enforcement to combat crime or terrorists.”

Last year, crime in Los Angeles rose by more than 12 percent, and while law-abiding citizens are limited in protecting their families, the lieutenant governor travels with armed bodyguards, Hanisee noted.

California already has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, but Alan Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, told FoxNews.com that California lawmakers appear to be in a contest to determine “who can be the most anti-gun rights.”

“California Democrats will not be happy until there is total firearm prohibition," Gottlieb said.

The ballot initiative, according to its website, would make five major changes in California’s gun laws if approved by voters. These include prohibiting possession of large-capacity military style magazines. But Hanisee said the only way to enforce this law is by “pulling police from the streets and putting them into the homes of people who pose no threat.”

The initiative would also require ammunition sales to be treated like gun sales, requiring the seller to conduct background checks for all ammunition purchases...

So not ONLY are your eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil guns jumping out of cabinets, loading themselves up, and running down the street indiscriminately... now YOUR eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil ammo is doing the same?!   ::)

Humanity never quite got around to that drastic action, but environmentalists still recall the first Earth Day fondly and hold many of the predictions in high regard.

So this Earth Day, The Daily Caller News Foundation takes a look at predictions made by environmentalists around the original Earth Day in 1970 to see how they’ve held up.

Have any of these dire predictions come true? No, but that hasn’t stopped environmentalists from worrying.

From predicting the end of civilization to classic worries about peak oil, here are seven environmentalist predictions that were just flat out wrong.

MANCHESTER, U.K. —

A 7-year-old boy in the U.K. has filled out his list for Santa, but what's included could break your heart this holiday season.

His letter to the man in red looks like any other wish list.

Christian Hickey wants a remote control helicopter, "Minecraft" and a "Jurassic World" video game.

But it's item No. 1 that will make you think.

He is asking Santa to "help the police catch the people who hurt me."

The letter was posted to the Greater Manchester Police Department's Facebook page.

A seven-year-old boy who was shot in the leg in Salford has written a letter to Santa asking him to help find the people who hurt him and his mum.

Christian Hickey and his mum Jayne, aged 30, were shot on the doorstep of their home in Salford after answering the door to two men.

After a brief conversation, one of the men fired a number of shots which resulted in Jayne being hit twice in her legs and Christian being shot once in his left leg.... See More

Christian and his mother Jayne were shot on their doorstep when they answered their door.

The shots hit Jayne twice in her leg. Christian was shot once in his leg, police said.

"It is heart wrenching to know that a little boy who should be writing a list filled with exciting gifts, has got this at the top of his Christmas list," Detective Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson posted.

"What happened to Christian will stay with him for the rest of his life but what we can do is try to make this up to him by finding those responsible and bringing them to justice," Jackson added.
