We all got together and voted you off the island!  That is what happened!!   :P

Just joking, seems CGN is still having the same problems it has had for 2.5 years now.  Maybe they are in the last stages of fixing it?

It'd already be fixed if I was handling it. Dunno where the servers are though and hopefully he has an untouched backup of the database.

We heard that before.  What makes you an expert in vB software and platform?  Seriously, you have a couple decades of experience in the platform, to the point you understand all the quirks of the DB and software?

OK found it. Seems like they have a problem with the source of the article (Breitbart) than with the subject itself. But Ikeo uses the typical strawman argument of "well other people do it, so it must be ok." From there the thread is further derailed by other members who think everything on the site should be 2A related. Overall it seems like ikeo's lack of transparency or maybe just him experimenting with his user base is causing issues like this.

Its funny. They want a pure 2A site yet I constantly see even the owner bring non 2a stuff in the mix. What the owner was trying to say is masks work in other Countries but failed to acknowledge or bring up was the fauchi effect which was to social distance, close businesses and control people.

That is the gist of the whole argument and the reason for bringing it up.  Do masks work or not and it doesn't matter what country they are used in.  But the racoon has a problem with anyone talking about anything he doesn't agree with.  Its fine if he doesn't want non 2A related issues on his platform but he does when it suits him.  IMO masks do very little, all they do is redirect air when exhaling.  They direct air up, down, and sideways instead of straight forward and do not filter the virus laden breath.  They prevent someone from exhaling directly into someones face but thats it.  The virus just gets redirected into the air and that gets breathed in by others.  But no discussion is allowed though because racoon man wears them, he thinks they are a good idea and that is that.

It was right where the Pacific plate meets the American plate meets the Juan De Fuca plate.  Not a good place for a 7.0 to happen.  Could be a foreshock for a 9 on the Juan De Fuca!!!!  Juan is gonna unzip!

This is why I won't even join that site.  Why bother supporting something that's platform is an anti-1A format because they don't want their liberal viewpoints challenged in any way?  COVID and the aftermath was a horrible attack on our country and things that went wrong must be corrected with laws so they never happen again.  It NEEDS to be discussed and light brought to the evil that occurred so it can be prevented in the future.

Notice that during COVID anyone questioning the narrative were silenced and now are being silenced again for bringing up new findings.  Who is doing the silencing in both cases??

IDK but is the new vB even backward compatible with the old database?  All this is getting very very old.  Been hashed, rehashed, rerererererererehashed to death.

Just for bringing up a newly released report on COVID on that other site!  He was trying to be so respectful to the rules over there, just trying to bring it up for discussion and gets jumped!  Soy #1 "I don't see the 2A tie in!"  Owner jumps in with "well in Asia they wear masks because of SAR and...." EM2 tries to respond from the report.  Soy #2 "So you're OK with threads with zero 2A relevance...."  1 other member tries to respond with his experience during COVID but the thread really becomes all about the owners rules and a suggestion on adding a feature on the site so only threads show up that one wants, who is being rude and who isn't and the owner freely opining on his views.  EM2 tried so hard but got jumped instead, even told by a admin "this is a 2A place if you don't like it go someplace else."  LMAO!! Of course this is only a synopsis/paraphrase but that other site is tyrannical with the owner riding herd. The thread made it up to 32 posts, doubt it goes further.   Should I post the link?   :D

Ok, I know ZERO about forums and IT and such.  But at this point, would it not be better to simply scrap the current iteration of Calguns and completely restart the forum on a modern forum platform/provider?  I realize we'd be losing all the history.  But the history is useless anyway if you can't even get to the forum.  At least the forum would live on.

Or is this a horrible idea?  I don't know enough about these things to know if this is horrible.

Rebuilding from scratch would change everything, it would be from nothing with nothing in it.  Unless people are willing to come back and rebuild the threads that were there, there would be whole parts of CGN with nothing in them and probably be that way for a long time.  Also, I'd bet many of the people who left would just see it as a reason not to come back.  BUt the longer this all goes on the chances of survival gets less and less.

There's never been any question about the separation of powers and who has sovereign authority.  The question has always been one of actual enforcement.  Just like the 3 Judge Panel which made this decision is not truly the 'determinative' factor.  It is a step in the theoretical underpinnings of authority.  But, it still comes down to budgets, who exercises authority in a given location/context, and who is actually expected to carry things out.

I suspect that's why the lead sentence says: "Sanctuary policies across the United States may be in jeopardy..." (italics emphasis mine)

While that may be true -on paper- we have learned that the judicial branch is largely/mostly controlled by political power/influence/corruption.  The swampy 9'th circuit may be making a statement that they see the handwriting on the wall and they want to be on the right side of history despite doing the deeds of the swamp for all of these years prior.

Don't forget Trump placed a few, or more than a few judges in the 9th when president.  The 9th is less of a circus than it was before Trump.  The ruling basically says that a State/County/City write law that prevents ICE from using State/County/City facilities that allow general public use.  They tried to prevent ICE from using the airport they discriminated against the US in doing so.

I'm starting to see a pattern.  When a certain user from another forum is on, everything works and it's fast.  Huh, go figure.

Huh.....yeah, he seems to be commenting every time its up.

Hey, it worked for a few hours this morning!  Progress!!  NOT

I'm hopeful, but  not holding my breatb that .net will be fixed. TIC, you have got to be the most optimistic person that I have ever encountered. I truly hope that you are correct in your optimism, however, my gut feeling is that cgn has been abandoned and will never recover. I really hope I am wrong because as others have said, the amount of information that has been posted there over the years 8s invaluable.

I don't recall what your health problems are, but I wish you the best of luck in overcoming them.

It's not so much 'optimism' as it is an unwillingness to call it dead given that we know it's beyond Kestryll's technical abilities and that DrJonesUSA has already posted (on the other site and not here or .net) that he hasn't had much time to dedicate to it.  Yes.  I too have been left somewhat askance in regard to why he'd post on a 'competing' site rather than on the site he's ostensibly trying to fix, but I'll keep my suspicions to myself for now.

Insofar as my health problems, the last 'major' one was a little over two years ago; but, with a couple of 'minor' ones after that.  I never really got a chance to fully recover from the major one and have been forced to deal with the 'after effects' ever since.  Naturally, the remedies and the after effects create their own... 'challenges.'  Some things in Life are and can be 'overcome.'  Other things just have to be 'endured' as the way things are now and, sometimes, adjusting to that new reality simply requires a break or a 'release' or both.   ;)

But, that leads back to what's happening with Kestryll and the site.  Maybe just a word of good cheer, or at least a 'neutral' cheer, on one or both of the sites actually impacted, would be a good idea in the Season of Good Cheer.

You mean instead of the "For F's Sake Kes, Get It Together" thread?  ???  ;D

It's no wonder we haven't seen/heard from him for months with 'cheer' like that coming his way from all over the place.  ::)

Yeah, because showing concern over the future of .net is a horrible thing?  Yup, watching an upstart site suck away so many long time members and the .net site just languishing for months on end is a great thing for the owner?  Its obvious that the other site is just opportunistic, starting up right when major problems started on .net and shouldn't be a major concern for the owner?  I guess I am guilty of not wanting .net to die.  If I'm showing more concern, well, I'm sorry.

12/1 and still 504's.  Not that I expected that it would have been fixed over Thanksgiving weekend though.  And with Christmas coming up I will assume there will be little time to get it up and running.  I guess my prediction, made so many months earlier that I don't even remember what thread or what site I said it on, will be true.  "After the new year" seems to be the case but who knows if even the

« on: November 27, 2024, 03:40:21 PM »
It worked last night after I got home yesterday around 1730 hrs.  It worked until I went to bed.  This morning, nothing but 504's.

FFS Kes, get the act together!!  Its been long enough to not get CGN running like it should!!  You had a very good thing going with CGN, get it together!!

Keep in mind that Kes handed off admin/site repair to DrJonesUSA over 2 months ago, at the strong/stern request of members who were complaining about the site being slow.  He did what people asked him to do, went and got outside (albeit donated time for) help.  So please, let's stop throwing Kes under the bus about it, I'm pretty sure he's done everything he can do at this point.

We have no idea if that relationship is still working.  There are simply zip, zero, nada updates to anything, not even a peep.  Even a simple post would be enough for most people, but nothing but radio silence.  I've seen many a post of people just requesting that, all that is needed but silence.  So we really don't know squat.

21
Just 504's and a couple of 502's since 0300 hrs.

I would think if it's being "worked on", there might be a banner stating "site down due to maintenance" or something similar.  Then again, maybe not!

Kyle

I'm beginning to think that a suggestion made by someone else might be true.  That being, the whole thing is just on autopilot and just waiting for the bought time on the server time to run out.  I hate to think that but it is a possibility.

This is my guess, it's just on a continuous boot and crash cycle, and the owner is done with it. Might just be too expensive and too time consuming to run. As sponser dollars dry up, it enters a inevitable death loop.

I really do hope that is not the case and for the life of me I can't figure why anyone with a resource like CGN would just let it die and disappear?  Too much bad blood?  Just say F all those clowns, I'll teach you!  If anything, offer it up to members here as a group buy so it continues.  He is the owner, he can sell it to anyone he wants.   He can even disallow any one person from being part of the group buy if he wants, it would limit who is willing to buy it but there can be other offers.  Or sell it to 1 person with conditions of sale.  But why just let it all just disappear?

I'm not sure, but I think that .Net has failed the "stress test" at this point.

So far this AM the ole familiar 504 is all I get from .Net.

Mr. Swalt, you may be correct on .Org too, considering Mr. Kestryll has not posted here nor has Mr. Librarian that I'm aware of.  Not confirming those that try to get confirmation for .Org is strange too, since I would think that would be automated in the software.

Kyle

ETA:  Just tried .Net and got on site, at 0348 but 504ed at 0350.  There did not appear to have any posts for yesterday (11/25/24) all unread posts were dated 11/24.

ETA: On .Net at 0627 and bumped at 0630 and no new posts.  Wasn't long enough to see members/guests.

This morning I came on here and read your post then this site went 504.  Then I went to .net and it was nothing but 504's, so many my browser asks if I want to go to the wayback machine to find it!  I thought, Kes just threw in the towel, just gave up and shut down both sites and your post was going to be the last I'd ever see on either site.  Went to work, got home and both are working???  WTF?  I guess they both still live.

On .org, he's got two in one thread and a third post in another thread which are truncated, including the post immediately before that one.

It looks like what I run into all the time.  If you have a character which doesn't jibe well with this site, the site truncates your post from immediately preceding that letter.  You have to go back and replace that letter.

A prime example is an apostrophe which is slanted, either from a quote you're trying to paste or from, I assume, a smart phone you're using to make the post.  The System doesn't 'recognize' or 'accept' that apostrophe and, therefore, cuts off the post at that point.

I'm not declaring that's what it is, but seems the most likely explanation given that his last three posts have been truncated.  If that is the case, however, it becomes the user's responsibility and not necessarily a 'fault' with the System.  Short version: Adapt to the System because the System isn't going to adapt to you.

That makes the most sense.  I've seen a few posts that were 1 word and that was it. If that was what he was referring to then its just another "f*** this place!" frustration.

27
I figure if CGN disappears I'd bet CGO will too.

28
Today was a total bust for .Net.  Started at 0258 hrs and a bazillion times trying and 504/502's up til now.  Maybe Mr. Swalt is correct, but I hate to think that.  I'm done for today.

Kyle

Same here.  But since I'm doing other things I'll try on occasion.  Such a huge freak'n shame!!!
