CGN Reopened
« on: August 24, 2024, 09:07:40 PM »
I'm reopening the calguns.net, it is functional however there are some things I need to have sorted out.
Primarily the custom avatars, sig pics and attachments as well as some weird back end issues like images showing up oddly and such.
Another example is the smilies. When we went to cloud hosting they moved the images in to the database and repathed them for their server.
These pathings do not exist on our server and that means correcting the pathing on 225 smilies one at a time.

I've gone as far as I can go on the server side with the host company support, both free and paid. Now the issues are software and database related which means working with vBulletin.
I have been working with their support forum staff and have again run that out. I could keep going but with an average of one response a day it would take far longer than I want.
I've now engaged the paid support staff and given access to the server and software so the developers can come in and fix things. Hopefully these can be fixed while we're live but I cannot guarantee that.

On the plus side I've found someone who does mods for vB6 and reached out to him to find out if either a new mod to replace iTrader can be made or even if it is possible to use the original iTrader mod files to 'update' it to work with vB6.

I was planning on doing this yesterday to have things open for the weekend but yesterday was my 37th wedding anniversary and if I spent it working on the forum the Boss would have fired me.
And then killed me.

They justify their meddling by discovering social ‘problems’ and getting the media to mag

Good.  It's moving kinda (more than just a little) slow and the formatting colors leave a bit to be desired in some cases, but it's back up and you can post, sort of.  So... Progress.  :)

I was able to get on .NET about 0300 hrs for a while, but as of 0355 hrs .NET will not load at all.

Will try again in a bit.

Kyle

ETA:  Spasmodically slow all morning with 504 gateway hang ups at times are issues at the moment.  Work in progress.

Is there any way (or any need for it) to donate money that will help with the migration & rebuild?  Calguns has always been a great resource for current CA laws and regulations, especially with some of the latest "bigger" news happening now like Nguyen v. Bonta.

I don't mind waiting patiently for the site to (hopefully) come back up soon in good working order, but I wouldn't mind helping out if it can make a difference.

Is there any update on the status of .NET?  It's been down since about 7:45AM this morning, the last few days it's been down for long periods and then briefly back up, down long periods, repeat.

You mean the site run by 5 year gun owner?  Seriously, he's got into guns like 4 or 5 years ago.  The guy had no clue that gun owners are into politics because of laws passed by Democrats and the Left.

You mean the site run by 5 year old gun owner?  Seriously, he's got into guns like 4 or 5 years ago.  The guy had no clue that gun owners are into politics because of laws passed by Democrats and the Left.

That's the reason the majority of us sought out a 2A orientated firearm site to start with. Back in the day I joined several firearm themed sites like GlockTalk, The High Road, etc., but they were not specific to the laws and regulations regarding CA and CA firearm owners.  The politics of firearm possession, carry, use, storage, and transport.

I have not been to those other sites in years because Calguns.Net had the forums that covered what I sought 2A wise and bit of extra if I needed feedback on deck paint.  Winning combo.

Sane here.  I heard of CGN on the Front Sight forum.  I stayed for the legal discussions but so many laws were being passed, lawsuits, adjudicated, appealed, put on hold, etc it was just too much to keep up with.  But in OT, there were actual people who talked about all sorts of things and a lot from the same viewpoint as mine.  Even though I disagree on many things the community was always entertaining so I kept coming back. And here I am, 12 years later.

Yeah, one of those who would rather stick their head in the sand (or elsewhere ;) ) and then wonder why they cannot buy a certain firearm, or have to wait 10 days, or only buy one every 30 days, or have to DROS ammo, cannot open carry, cannot obtain a CCW, etc. etc.

Well Mr. ikeo1 admits that his site is his "safe space".  This is in reference to Mr. Brandon Herrera's nomination to the ATF and whether the thread/post should remain or get zapped.

Quote
It'll stay as long as it stays on topic and doesn't degrade into insults of one group or another. The main thing is it should be informative for 2A and not "AYE f** the libs, we won! Look at 'em cry"

I try to be reasonable. I see enough politics on my FB/Youtube/Reddit/News etc. This is my safe space from politics. I like 2A and learning about the different aspects of it. Everyone here is building a new foundation for 2A information as a resource hub. The other is low quality posting and irrelevant. It's amazing what people can do when you collaborate and take out the things that divide us.

You just cannot discuss the Second Amendment and California laws and regs, and not include state and national politics.  His site; his rules.

Note:Bold emphasis mine.
