As much as I'm enjoying listening in on the whole operation, I'm finding it just as disturbing that their SWAT comms aren't encrypted and being are broadcasted out for the whole world to hear.

For all the chaos the SWAT team has to be commended for their organization and their bravery. I listened to that feed from the time it started to a while after the end. Those guys were badass-driving the Bearcats into the building to shield and extract hostages. I heard officers hit during gunfire exchanges still doing their job. It was damn impressive considering the threat of IED based on witness accounts. Also, multiple patients and employees inside that got out safely. While the last of life is tragic, there could have been so many more deaths.

I think having the comms available for the public is good. I lose my shit every time I watch CNN and see their talking heads blathering and speculating without reporting facts about the events. It's maddening. I knew a full 20 MINUTES before CNN that the shooter was in custody.

HOLY CRAP!!

This shooting was less than 1/2 mile from where my sister and brother in law live! I just talked to them on the phone and they could hear the shooting off and on during the day. They said at first they thought it was coming from the hills to the west of their house and was kind of muffled because it was snowing, but then they heard sirens and knew something bad was going on.
