Off Topic Discussion / What happened at the fire pit at Oji's BBQ
« on: November 07, 2008, 06:14:07 PM »
Well, so we had a nice fire going in the fire pit.
Do to excessive lip flapping, drinking, mouth stuffing, and no fire tending, the fire burnt down to coals pretty quick.
So a couple chunks of fresh dry wood were thrown on in the usual manner.
Despite much smoke, no fire occurred.
So the need for a fire accelerant was voiced.
Being an old desert racer, of course I had a gallon can of premium gas mixed with some synthetic 2-cycle race oil at hand.
Pouring the gas on the coals did not produce fire.
Rather, a strange cloud of misty, very thick and visible fumes spread out from the fire pit in all directions 5-10 feet very quickly.
Some of us, including me with the gas can, backed off quick.
Some of us did  not back off at all.
As a matter of fact, Glock30 was so disappointed with the lack of fire that he stepped right up to the pit, bent down and used his lighter to get the fire going again.
One spark from the lighter was all it took.
For brief moment, there was this "oh shit" feeling...
At least half the back yard was momentarily on fire...even the air! You could feel the heat and hear a whoosh!
Glock30 stumbles back, he's OK but missing all the hair on his arm.
There was a moment of stunned silence, then a round of @#$%^&*()_+
The fire was lit again, so back to flappin'n lips and drinking and eating we did.
 :o

Wish I had pics, but this is not one to duplicate for sure...
WTF was in that synthetic race oil? Nitro?
