Yep... its down... been down for several hours....

what sort of issues are they dealing with that keep requiring them to take the system down?

I might be able to help if I knew what it was.

Yes, with the exception of a few broomhandles that have detachable magazines.

It's no small feat to get those things into CA.... it can be done... but IMHO its worth every penny to just pay the extra to get one thats already here... by the time you add up initial costs, gunsmithing fees, out of state FFL tranfers, LEO transfer + whatever fees the guy wants to make to do it (he only gets to do about six a year), and multiple shipping costs (not to mention there are only a very few FFL's who will be in the same room with this stuff) the extra you pay to avoid the hassle isn't all that much.

Especially now that prices on AW type pistols are going through the roof in free states

There is a specific list of handguns which originally were fitted with shoulder stocks which are exempted from the NFA registry.

Broomhandles, BHP's and some 1911's fit in this catagory.... reproductions don't count.

also cap and ball guns can be just about anything you want since they are not considered to be firearms under the 34nfa or 68 gca.

Pavement gave way to gravel as Jakowski's tires ate up the road to nogles...  a plume of dust rising into the still southern california air.

No one had wanted the savoy at the police auction he'd bought her at... the primer patchwork and dented rear quarterpannel were not particularly apealing to the crowd who'd shown up to bid on the confescated property that day... And to be fair, she didn't turn a lot of heads parked in the back amongst all the beamers and benzes... the lexus suv's and the porche 911's... He'd gotten her for a song.. $500 cash and a bit of back registration... Even the auctioneer had shaken his head in disbelief when he'd raised his hand to bid...

But Jakowski knew something the others didn't, she was a bit special...

Large capacity gas tank, a fuel injected 440 with aluminum heads that had been painted to look like rusty steel covered in grease, Tubbed wheel wells stuffed with run flat racing tires mounted on steel rims with the white lettering on the inside to avoid calling attention to itself.. a subframe and a roll cage immaculatly hidden inside the pannels and trim. Sway bars, monroe air shocks and ad a leaf's kept the rear end ridged when transporting heavy loads, and an overbuilt aluminum drive shaft antonised flat black made sure the power made it from the 727 torqueflight's output shaft to the dana suregrip rear end.  quality high flow mufflers kept the sound down to a normal level when the tuned exhaust cutouts were closed.

beat up and stained ugly pea soup green upholstry and a delapidated paint job was a small price to pay for the fastest smuggling car the san diego sherrifs department had ever caught... and even jakowski's buddy in patrol who had given him the heads up acknowledged that they'd have never caught her if they hadn't stumbled across he hidden in a field with the driver suffering a bout of 'montazumas revenge' behind a nearby bush...

Even after a thourough search, and siezing all the contraband drugs with a k9... there were still some surprises that they'd missed... If Jakowski hadn't tried put in a new stereo he would never have found the hidden compartment in the dash that held the two old pinaple type handgrenades and a slightly rusty 1911A1... and if he hadn't tried to replace the front quarterpannel he never would have found the old ak47 wrapped in grease soaked rags that was hidden behind it...

As Victoria turned up the volume on on radio and the crackling sound  stevie earl's copperhead road filled the car, Jakowski couldn't help but smile to himself as she tried to change the station only to be met with static for her efforts before tuneing it back...

He'd originally planned on a full restoration.... new interior... new paint... new sound system, but after getting to know her a bit better he'd decided to leave her exactly as she was... sometimes perfection came from the imperfections...

I've got a Mossberg brownie.... its a neat design...

you can actually make a modified firing pin that sets off two barrels at a time or all four barrels at once... (although I think strictly speaking that might qualify as a machine gun....)

didn't stop people from doing it back in the 20's when these were originally made.

its the only handgun mossberg ever made.... but it is what started them as a company.

As the Motor in the 76 turns, coughs twice and rumbles to life, Diego leanes out the window, "And Jakowski.... if you pull that rod in Nogles everyone's going to know your a cop... leave it and the badge home if you want information...  There were two dozen people in that bar, Someone must have heard the old mans chest getting hollowed out"

Wanted To Buy / Re: WTB Daisy 2003 bb gun :D
« on: October 17, 2008, 06:49:30 PM »
I actually can't have it here, bb guns are illegal in the city of new york...

They require a special permit, and permits are not issued to anyone but importers and only on the condition that the guns remain in the original packaging while in the city.

I'd have to have it shipped to a buddy back in CA to hold for me :(

I'm actually going a bit stir crazy... I cant have anything fun here.

« on: October 16, 2008, 12:28:31 PM »
if your going to get a 9mm 1911, it makes sense to go for a .38 super instead...

same round count, but more whoopanus per pop

1911's were designed for .45 auto and .38 auto and .38 superauto, anything else is a bastardization of the work of JMB.

oh and he made .22LR conversion slides if you want a plinker....

9mm 1911 is a problem looking for a solution and solving it half-anus'ed.

heh... I tend to hoard things...

and If I dont have something... I usually know where one is ;)

but give me a price range and what you'd prefer and I'll see what can make happen.

Because I'm out of state right now (and would have to have friends dig stuff out of storage to find things for you its much more difficult and we'll have to keep it to C&R long guns)

Heh, it hasn't changed much... costs $2 instead of a buck or a buck fifty, or whatever it was... still smells like hobo whiz and crazy people hit you up for cash...

oh they can search you (and lock blade knives are illegal, as are knives with a clip or belt knives or sheath knives.. etc etc etc. so be carefull)

sounds like we got us a plan..

I live here now

I have put aside the way of the gun to pursue my academic future.

aka, I got into Columbia University and will be studying economics for the next two-three years.

.... I can make the Pizza thing happen if price is no object, (Fed ex has a courier option which can get one to you in about 5 hours)

otherwise I can ship you guys the spices/ingrediants and you can use them to make your own.

or I can use dry ice to ship the stuff frozen.

I really don't mind sending all kinds of cool food back to CA, heck the cheese alone makes the stuff we have access to in CA look like crap.

*** edit *** this is in no way intended to disparage CA, the people in it, or anything else, it is simply a comparison of cheese.

So how is NYC?

well.... I'm kinda in limbo right now

Living at the in-laws house waiting to get into my appartment (theoretically we get to move in on the 18th)

still dealing with some stuff back in CA... (oh just so you know my wife was really pissed that I just signed over the pink on the interceptor... she's such a little capitalist, 'why did you give it away! you could have sold it and gotten money' etc. etc etc.)

She doen't understand that guys just trust each other sometimes... In my whole life I've had ONE guy burn me on a bike and he was just an 18 year old kid who I still think had good intentions, but got in way over his head.

but the food is good, I've got internet access and I'm probably going to buy/borrow a copy of 'unintended consequences to read while I wait for the limbo to end.

how are things back at the ranch?

Whoah.... kes

Didn't think you had all that much experience with the puddin play ;)

Just when you think you know a guy......

Tapioca is best because of the little round... never mind.

On a totally separate note, I don't usually chime in on stuff like this, but life on calguns was a bit more interesting with SAS around.

If only for the interesting dynamic between him and the moderators, (I'm sure it wasn't fun to deal with, but it was great popcorn material)

and some of the informative stuff that he posted with regard to emergency water supplies, chainsaws and NFA stuff.

I still would like to know what happened to his plans with regard to obtaining that off list open bolt semi auto mac10 pistol.

A public apology, a probationary period and some strict supervision would make for a lot more work for the moderators, but I think the community might benifit from his being around more than it would be hurt by his presence.

Just my 2 cents, (and I do realize that there is probably a ton of stuff that I don't know about or only know of by hearsay)

I also heard on good authority that when the chips were down he may have gone above and beyond to help out a fellow calgunner. It wasn't me, I can't speak to what that help was, or in what context it was done.  The calgunner who received the help didn't tell me any details (and wouldn't want their identity made known), only a statement that he had helped a lot and they were very thankful for it. I don't know anything more so I have to take that on the face of it.

Anyway, I think that might be worth something.

either way, keep the peace
