That is actually one of the solutions on the table right now, a separate .org-type forum for TaN style posting. It has benefits and detractions which are being discussed.
There are a few other options being considered as well.
I'm not writing off the 'TaN crowd', just tying to find a solution that would benefit all.
I have one solution I am leaning towards but want to get input from the Staff since they have to live with my decision too.
I have been too busy to get my two cents into the closed down TAN threads the last day or so, but I have a few things to add...
The core group of TAN posters are a very tight-knit group of friends.
I don't think a single week goes by where at least two of them get together in person for a meal or to go shooting.
For example, we had a BBQ at my house last night (where I found out about the close of TAN#3 because I had not been online much to see that it was gone) and there were 7 calgunners in attendance: myself, moonclip, usnchief, jacques, coldsteel, 5150marcelo and frijolito.
usnchief drove 140 miles each way to be there.
jacques was probably right about 100 miles each way.
Get togethers like this are the beginnings of life-long friendships.
While some of the potty talk that we do probably looks quite bad to outsiders, it's all just ribbing between friends, like everybody did when they were in high school.
Please try to figure out a way that we can have a place to gather that forges friendships like this.
Much of what we talk about in TAN is other threads and there are constant links or references to things in other calguns threads.
Other people are quick to tell us to just leave and go somewhere else, but that's not not a realistic solution.
We all like it here and consider it our home.
My answer to the people telling us to leave is that they just don't need to read our thread if they don't like what's in it.
I don't know the feasability of it, but what about a hidden TAN type sub-forum?
Regulars would all know how to find it, but it would not be listed on the main forums page.
This would allow the community to stay in-tact without the detractors being bothered with even seeing the thread in their list of forums or new people being offended because they don't know the back-story or context of any given post within the threads...
