When I post something, it takes me out of the thread and back to the index page.

Not sure what icon you refer to. I am looking for something above the first message in a thread that takes you to your first unread message in the thread.

the smash icon only sends you to the last message. what OP is referring to is if you read part of the thread and there are updates, it should take you to the message right after the last one OP was able to read.

Yeah, that is pretty weird. Keeps making me think I clicked something wrong.

I kind of like it actually.  I can always reenter the thread (last post no less) since it is right there at the top of the index page if I need to.

I also appreciate how it quotes quotes without my having to do it manually.
