The title says it all. I was initially against the idea of selling the site, but at this point I'm beginning to think it might be the best option. If there was any indication of caring about it, I might feel differently. The silence is deafening.

Has anyone considered the possibility that the site(s) have been hijacked and Kes can't reply or post?

Does anyone have a phone number or email contact for him that could get in touch with him directly?  Librarian? Ivanimal? Kimber-SS? Or any other former mods of .NET?

He was listed as last 'active' on this site on 8 October.

I still can't make connections with .net, but somebody here or on there noted the other day he was listed as 'active' on .net just a week or so back.

I believe the working hypothesis is that he's already acknowledged it's beyond his technical ability to fix and is likely 'staying out of the way' in terms of those on DrJonesUSA's team.

Unfortunately, if he hasn't just 'walked away' (which I don't believe or, at least, hope isn't likely either), I think we're getting close to a point where he needs to post something, even if simply to acknowledge that he hasn't walked away or given up or whatever.  If for no other reason, maybe it will put a plug in it, for a time, with all those trying to convince us he has.

Remember, Kestryll really didn't post all that often to begin with.  Those 'demanding' that he 'hold the hands' of members throughout all this and take offense that he isn't can get a life.  But, given that we haven't heard anything out of him in a couple of months, given that the last 'update' was actually posted on the 'other site' rather than here or .net, and given that we're still not seeing much by way of improvement in the situation, it might be a good idea to provide some 'signs of Life' to those trying to remain loyal.

It is the Season of Good Cheer and a little 'good news,' no matter how sparse or vague, might be appropriate.

The illogical behavior, lack of pattern in it's up/down time is what so confusing to me.  It's out of my expertise; I have a hard enough time keeping my ancient 2011 PC running with Win 7.

End of November could be either a move to another server, or .NET is going offline permanently.  I guess we'll know in a few days.

It was working real well for a couple of hours, then... Gateway, 504 Gateway, etc.

We'll see.  It's an Holiday weekend and, at least for me, there's not an alternative except .org.  If you still don't understand why, you might note my latest post in this thread...

It still doesn't mean the other site is a 'bad site.'  It simply means what I've said all along; i.e., that it's run with a different agenda, a different timbre, and a different sense of right/wrong than that to which we've become accustom. 

It does, however, layout, pretty starkly, why .net needs to be saved/fixed.

Ok, I know ZERO about forums and IT and such.  But at this point, would it not be better to simply scrap the current iteration of Calguns and completely restart the forum on a modern forum platform/provider?  I realize we'd be losing all the history.  But the history is useless anyway if you can't even get to the forum.  At least the forum would live on.   

Or is this a horrible idea?  I don't know enough about these things to know if this is horrible.

Rebuilding from scratch would change everything, it would be from nothing with nothing in it.  Unless people are willing to come back and rebuild the threads that were there, there would be whole parts of CGN with nothing in them and probably be that way for a long time.  Also, I'd bet many of the people who left would just see it as a reason not to come back.  BUt the longer this all goes on the chances of survival gets less and less.

Everything that's currently on CG could be placed into a searchable archive so that whatever is wrong with the current database will not continue causing problems with the software which updates/catalogs it.  Lots of forums that have large databases do this to streamline the search/post/backup processes.

You'll note that the vast majority of the hashing, rehashing, and rerererererererehashing is being done by those who don't get to look under the hood.  Yet, they congratulate themselves on their brilliance and continually insist they could fix it all in a few hours to a couple of weeks.  Then they bash on Kestryll for not doing so and insist he turn the site over to someone else.

I mean, if you wanted to 'go there,' one could come up with a plausible theory that this all results from an attack where the purpose is to cause Kestryll to close the site or turn the site over to someone who would neuter it in the interest of being less aggressive and less confrontational in their discourse.  You know, more 'inviting' and 'inclusive' when discussing the Constitutional, individual rights, the Law, etc. and more 'restrictive' in terms of how the 2nd Amendment is intrinsically related/interrelated with other Amendments and other rights.
